I got a John Deere LA145 for free. There wasn't one thing wrong with it, there were several. Short story shorter, I put six hundred dollars into it and it is now my favorite thing to do- mowing with it. The detective work of finding all its problems was fun too, and bringing it back from the neglected state it was in in contrast to how it looks and runs just makes me happy.

That’s the deal. You can get some pretty decent units for free but you have to go as soon as you learn of it

seems like around here in eastern NC a mower like that would still be asking $300 with a hole in the side of the engine.

Nice find! Free mowers died here in Iowa a couple years ago.

I just picked up 2 free blowers. The owner couldn’t get them started. The craftsman fired right up in a few pulls and he also had a BRAND NEW husqvarna that didn’t run. Got it home and tried all my tricks but nothing. This thing is so new that the air filter is completely white. I don’t think it even had a full tank ran through it yet. I noticed the compression was pretty low so I pulled the motor and unfortunately the piston and head are completely shot. I think homie ran it without mixing the gas right out of the box. Buuut $30 buys a new head and piston so $30 for 2 blowers isn’t bad at all.

I hope you take the time to go through the different systems on that mower to adjust, lube and repair or replace. The exposed part of the fuel tank can be polished and have clear UV tape applied to keep it from "fogging up" again. Allows the fuel level to be seen quicker.

For those who are wondering what you can do . . .

Basically, change oil and filter. Dump and and rinse the fuel tank. Clean carb, replace fuel line. Clean and adjust or replace spark plugs. Check cooling fins on engine for debris blocking air flow. Check valve lash for proper clearance. Change hydrostatic fluid. Check mower deck spindles for noise or excessive play.

My dad got a free push lawn mower at the dump it was just a year old guy said he couldn't get it running my dad brought it home the spark plug boot fell off push it back on we had that mower for over 10 years

I got a free tv like this. A friend worked at a pizza place and said it broke and they got a new one. I picked it up and those goofballs had taped over the vent in the back because of the flour they didn’t want it getting in the tv. So it would overheat and turn off. Brought it home, took off the tape, and it worked perfectly. It was only a year old. A $800 sampsung 55 inch smart tv. I love getting scores like this. Some people just don’t care to think about the value of things idk.

I got a free John Deere 102, 42” deck mower from a neighbor about 10 years ago. It took an $8.00 part to get it running and I still use it to this day. It’s a great little mower.

Got my mower for free, been using it for 10 years, only have had to do some general maintence. Sometimes i actually make sure its still got oil, dont remember when the oil was changed last.

I just got a 1975 Dynamark rider. It's a 36 inch rear discharge mower. Got it free from original owner. It runs and rides like a champion. All it needed was a battery.
