Marvel Broke Ben Reilly To Boost Miles and Spider-Gwen

Marvel Comics broke Ben Reilly on purpose. Tom Brevoort recently opened up why Marvel discarded Ben Reilly Scarlett Spider years ago. The answer is about what most people would expect. Ben just isn't diverse and doesn't appeal to a modern audience like Miles Morales or Spider-Gwen. Wes mocks Marvel for pushing the message over good business in the Spider-Verse. Marvel broke Ben Reilly to boost Miles Morales and Spider-Gwen.

Biggest indicator there’s something inherently wrong with a character is if they only thrive at the expense of other characters.

Ben Reilly always intrigued me as a concept. Here's a guy who has the memories of someone else, had the life of someone else, but must now adjust to his new identity since he's a clone. I always wondered what they could do with that concept.

Honestly. Restore Ben and his brotherhood to Peter. Make Chasm its own creature. A true shadow to Peter Parker. A clone with no amount of Peter Parker in him, and just a hunger for more power, and memory tracking like Ultimate Carnage. Sadly that’s too much and uninteresting for this day and age…

Marvel hates Ben. First they kill him off at the end of the clone saga, ressurect him and turn him into a villain years later and now they are outright abusing him, just to make Miles looks better.
I swear, someone should call social services for all the Marvel characters!

Marvel already treats Peter like dirt. Do you really expect them to treat his clone any better?

Raising a character up by putting another down is usually a bad move.

And they also screwed over Mayday Parker as Spidergirl. Why does every Spiderman story have to set up Miles Morales? What about Spidergirl?

Mate, we can bear a knockoff webhead, but 2, 3, 4, and counting? No, fuck this spiderverse crap.

Miles and Gwen need to return to their universes and have their own adventures without co-opting Peter's, because it means they're just parasitic characters otherwise.

Ben Reilly as the angry clone is a good concept, and should be given a chance.

Whatever happened to Kaine being the new Scarlet Spider in Texas?

The cover at 0:13 of your video is for the "Scarlet Spider" series from Christopher Yost, which is about Kaine Parker and not Ben Reilly. It's a great series, certainly worth reading, but it's not a Ben Reilly series.

They also just tossed away May "Mayday" Parker.

If they really wanted to elevate Spider-Gwen, separate her from being "Spider-man who wears white". Then give her a story and characterization that people can actually get behind. Same goes for Miles. Ben ALREADY has that, and they ignore his potential because Miles and Gwen check boxes.

Poor spider-man has become the bandwagon of so many counterfeits that cling to the original character’s appeal and fame…

There is only one reason Marvel is constantly promoting Miles Morales and it's the same reason why "Into the Spider-verse" got an Emmy:
He's black.

After Spider Society I checked out. This whole spider-verse is getting out of hand. We have what? 23 Spiders now?

Ben’s story was so tragic and it was the most interesting storyline in Spider-Man Beyond cause Ben had been through major trauma and wanted to be a hero. Way more interesting than Spider-Man had been for a long while and then they made him some crazy villain. Disappointed at the lost opportunity

the way Ben Reilly is relatable is he's every one of us who feels we have the same gifts/ability as someone else, but feels we are struggling to try to compete to have the same opportunities given. "I'm just as good as the other person", but life throws you curveballs and you're still unemployed, trying to do the right thing and show you're just as good as your brother/friend. That's how you make the character relatable! "I have the exact powers and abilities as Spidey and Peter Parker, but don't have the life he leads"

Miles Morales and Slide Gwen, successful? They won't even refer to Miles as Spiderman! They don't even have they're rogue's gallery, they keep giving them undeserved power ups to make them cool. Keep Ben Reilly, ditch the wonder twins.

Miles and Gwen are the Kamala Khan and Captain Marvel of the Spider-Man universe. Tom “The Man in the Crash Helmet” Brevoort demands you all love them both unconditionally.

Ben Reilly is very dear to my heart ... It's a shame what happened to him.
