Bell MX-9 Adventure Helmet Review at RevZilla.com

Brand new for 2015, the Bell MX-9 Adventure Barricade helmet is a blast of graphical excellence in a highly advanced lid from Bell. Built on a polycarb construction, the ADV inspired lid has a peak that has been specially designed to be more aerodynamic on the highway than it’s contemporaries. However, if you chose to go without, that’s fine too. Intermediate oval in head shape, it comes in three shell sizes, looks extremely aggressive, and comes at an entry-level price point.

Hi I have purchased one of these helmets and have found the peak is adjustable
Two positions Remove top centre screw pivot peak forward
this reveals a rubber plug remove it and you will find another threaded hole

Really appreciate the honesty in your videos. One reason I love shopping with you guys, just wish you had a store in Canada somewhere!

+Sean M The Bell MX-9 and MX-9 Adventure helmets are similar enough that it's probably not worth getting the Adventure model. I'd recommend just running goggles. -DrewZilla

Like a dummy I bought the Bell MX-9 (non-ADV) for off-roading on my WR this spring before looking at all the options. Now that I have been doing some longer weekend trips I have been looking at the MX-9 ADV version. Besides the face shield, is there any other differences between the two? If not I would probably just run goggles and save myself the $200... or is the faceshield (and are there other differences/features?) worth another $200? Thanks RZ!

Tried this helmet out on a test ride, ZLA is correct, with the visor attached the helmet pulls your neck at 70+mph. So dual sport is limited but the fit is great and comfy. My test ride was on a naked bike. Nice breakdown ZLA!!!

The jaw vents are the only reason why I'm not buying this beautiful helmet... living in England you need something that's able to keep the cold out of your helmet as much as possible... Not being able to seal the front vents would probably just kill me over time... Great review.. thank you!

Great review! But I'm still debating on whether to get this, because the non-closing vents will get annoying whenever it rains!

Brilliant review as always, I just wanted to ask if this helmet is usable without the visor and with googles instead, or maybe it would be a problem to reassemble the peak without the thickness of the visor below?

Thank you

I have a 22” head, the chart for scorpion says I need an xl i immediately knew that was way off, so I tried one on today and I couldn’t get it passes my crown. I bought the bell mx-9 adv.
In a 3x and it fits well. How much space is supposed to be between the front bar of the helmet and my chin?

I usually find Bell helmets comfortable. I tried on lot of helmets recently, and they weren't great. The MX9 is. I must have an American head.

I am wondering your opinion between this Bell MX-9 Adventure and the Fly Trekker. I cant find any good comparisons between these two hats anywhere on the net. I am wondering which is more comfortable for all day riding? The Bell seems like to be maybe a bit better quality but there are some better features on the Fly in my opinion. I like that the fly has more than one adjustable vent on the helmet, help to stay warm when riding on cool days, also I like that you can adjust the angle of the peak by just loosening the nut instead of having to remove it like the Bell requires. Am I missing anything between these two? If you had to recommend one which would you choose? Thanks

Nice review as usual. I have a very low end Bilt brand helmet that I started on and really need a visor 'cause I just hate the sun in my face. I do however ride long stretches of highway and use a Sena. I had no issues installing my Sena on my helmet and managed to clamp it just fine, no ear pockets either. I do feel them but its not unbearable. Question, have you installed a com unit on these using clamping? Are you saying clamping is impossible due to the thickness?

Also, regarding the visor at highway speeds, is it just noise and a bit of head movement induced by the sail effect, or are we talking head torquing nightmare when looking around? Thanks alot?

They ever going to offer something in the RS-1 range in an adventure variant? RS-1 fit my head better than any helmet before or since, been waiting for a Dual-sport from Bell in that pricerange/quality.

Do you think it would be a good winter option for the NW?

I am looking for an adventure style helmet and this helmet looks really cool, but the Nexx XD1, although a little bit more expensive, seems to be much better.

Is the price difference worth my money?

I know this asking a lot but I would love to see what this helmet looks like with the two different gold face shields. For some reason I cant find any images online. This helmet is on my list for the new riding season, looking at the matte black but not sure if I should get it with the light gold or dark gold shield.
