Welcome to Korea! Some tips:
1. T-money card (buses, subways, convenience store purchases)
2. At many restaurants the silverware/napkins are in a side drawer of your table (some foreigners think the waitress is neglecting them by not bringing them)
2b. Drinking water is often self serve. Walk to the corner of the restaurant and fill a cup from the carafe or dispenser
2c. Waiters will not routinely come check on you. There is a buzzer on the table you press if you need one to come over
2d. Just like in Japan, it's fairly safe to leave your belongings to claim an open table at a coffee shop while you go up to the counter to order
2e. If all your bowls/plates came out on a tray (instead of individually), there's an expectation that you take the used bowls/tray to the counter when done instead of expecting the waitress to come get them. Best tip is watch what other diners are doing.
3. That thing at a crosswalk that resembles the button you push in the US to make the light turn green isn't that. It's a button to alert someone nearby that a blind pedestrian needs assistance crossing the street
4. Korea overall isn't as scam-culture as other places (the mental energy I exerted in Paris, Italy, Morocco, etc. to not get scammed at every turn) but what has happened is the growing tourism caused an inflation of prices to match western expectations. So a street snack that used to be $1.75 is now $3 (what an American might expect). Such pricing is most common where the foreigners per capita are. Go to stalls where you only see locals and they're often much cheaper (and better tasting).
5. Fancy coffee/pastry are two items that's exactly as expensive as they might be in North America, but a lot of other things are cheaper (just not southeast Asia or eastern Europe cheap). You could take a taxi from Seoul Station to Hongdae for about 11, 000. But in nightlife districts after midnight (when trains stop running) there will be obscene surge pricing.
6. When on public transport, don't speak using outdoor voice, or even have a long sustained conversation in indoor voice. Just like in Japan, public space is quieter than in the west. If you read the room you'll find many locals are watching their phones with airpods on or eyes closed because they're tired from work.
7. Pay attention around cars especially in narrow alleyways. Pedestrians don't have the right of way like in America. It's not like the driver will run over you but they'll angrily honk.
8. I like your positive attitude in the face of stressful events and look forward to watching future videos.

If you need any help in Seoul, never hesitate to ask people around you... Koreans are mostly friendly for foreigners... And Korea, especially Seoul metropolitan area has one of the best organized public transportation systems in the world and you'll get used to it quite shortly... Have a pleasant trip in Korea...

Just get Tmoney cards like everyone else. No need to pay cash in any public transportation including bus, subway even some vending machines. You can pay with credit card in taxis. Korean taxi is very cheap. It's 1/3~1/5 compare with Tokyo or NY.

Seems like a lot of people already commented about T Money Card. You will also want to download Naver Map or Kakao Map. Google Map sucks in Korea. Make sure you change the language on the setting to English. I personally use Naver Map when I visit Korea. Good luck and enjoy!

Just stumbled upon your channel. Koreans are the the most part yes. It can have it's down. But I do agree, for the most part yes, the nicest. On my trip there years ago, I was so lost...my second day. A nice gentleman, took about 30 minutes and taught me how to use the subway. It was a life changer. I really look forward to watching more and watching your previous trips...especially Thailand which is a country I love.

한양도성(서울의 옛 명칭) 성곽길로 인왕산에 올라가서 서울 전경을 감상하는 코스를 추천합니다. 서울 감상의 최고 스팟입니다.

I visited Seoul 20 years ago, and I am so surprised that it changed so much! I remembered the tour guide recommended us buying ginseng. I wondered if it still a popular local product still. And remembered being brought to a night market where they sold a lot of fake branded bags/wallets. They have a famous theme park called Lotto world. Look forward to watching your Korea videos so i can see what the other changes are! Note: Korean guys are well known to be super handsome. Lol.

You should've researched basic things before you went to a foreign country. Taxi in Korea isn't expensive so 2 of you with big luggages, hotel near downtown, taxi can be the best way to move.
You already saw many advices about T money.
Have a good trip in Korea, big welcome 🙏 😃

Hope you had a great time in Korea. As Korean American who live in Seoul for 15 years and in Tokyo for 2, those are my top 5 cities I’ve lived. Kinda miss my life there too 😂.

If you take a bus in Korea, you can't get cash change. The bus is not preparing change.. It's natural to get annoyed when you pay cash to the bus driver. You're messing with the bus driver. Don't think about getting change. If you only have cash, you have to get off the bus and buy a T-money card. If you don't have time, it's polite to put money in, saying you don't need change..You must use a T-money card unconditionally. T-money cards are also sold at convenience stores around the clock in every alley. If you use the T-money card, you can use all city buses and subways not only in Seoul but also across the country. If you use a T-money card, there is no additional charge even if you take the wrong one. The T-money card calculates the fare only by the distance to the destination, whether by subway or bus. Check your card on the device when you get on and off.. Don't worry about the bus and subway company going bankrupt. The subway company is owned by the state, and the bus company is covered by the state. South Koreans think of transportation as investment and welfare.

1. After covid most of the buses don't take cash. (Only card taken for contactless)
Most Koreans use transportation NFC included credit card but this isn't easy for foreigners to make one. So there is tranportation card called T-money. You can buy one at convenience store.

2. Transportation transfer is available if you use T-money.
