Florida lawmakers consider year-round school schedule for students

A House panel on Tuesday supported launching a pilot program of year-round schools, with the plan’s sponsor suggesting it could help students recover from learning losses during the COVID-19 pandemic.

They don't pay teachers enough as it is and now they want to take away the summer break. This will cause teachers to leave faster. Is sounds like a good idea in theory.

Does "year-round" mean the current 180 days spread out over 12 months or will there be additional school days?

Why just extend spring breaks, summer breaks, Christmas, new year's, Thanksgiving. My kid's school district here in Texas is 3 weeks for spring break, summer 3 months plus 1 week, Christmas 3 weeks.

So the idea of this democratic representative is that the less time kids are unsupervised, the more the chances for crimes to occur?!?!? What a stupid idea! Teachers are not babysitters! They are there to teach not supervise kids so the parents can work! If you want them to be babysitters, then pay them a nice hefty salary!

Less work more playtime. Just pass a law allowing for extended vacation with paid sick leave. Plus additional funding for parent's like myself who have special needs kid's

Work introduced at the educational level was how China recovered from a Great Depression. In the end our children will become Master Tradesmen and Manufacturers.
