Another Bee-zy day with the OC Bee Team

Bees are an essential part of our food chain, pollinating several crops. Bees are one of my agriculture passions, and I am looking forward to becoming an ambassador-level beekeeper through the California Master Beekeeper Program. Follow me in that process and in documenting how to care for them. They use science-based data in the education of stewards and ambassadors of beekeeping.

I spent another day with the OC Bee team, getting acquainted with the bees, and taking pictures and videos. The day starts with a list of what needs to be done for their twelve beehives. The OC Bee team rents some space at UC South Coast ANR for their apiary. This means also being a steward of that plot of land while upkeeping it. A Bee hotel for local pollinators is in the making, it will look fabulous!

I now feel so much more comfortable hanging out with the bees. I trust my protective gear and realize how gentle most of their beehives are. I can take pictures and videos pretty much in the bees’ faces without being bothered. If I feel some agitation from the colony, it’s time to leave them alone, meaning they are bee-zy!
