Our mother used to like this band and got to know their music as a kid when being driven around. Happy memories.

Bread was always one of the bands that I followed since the 70's and until today I keep listening. Rest in peace James, Larry and Mike! God bless David Gates for many more years.

Guitar Man lyrics staying relevant during 2024

I discovered Bread on a rainy Sunday night, I was 19 and heartbroken for several months. While driving my car, I was thinking about love and life, trying to find answers. On the radio, there was this one-hour special on the band. I didn't really know the songs, or maybe I did, but they sounded quite familiar. Their softness, their melancholy, their musical perfection — Gates' voice is clearly the band's trademark —  touched me to the deepest of my soul (exactly where it hurts). I remember that evening as one of the most profound. The next day, I ordered from Columbia House Bread's Anthology on CD. Several weeks later, after learning my favorites Bread songs on the guitar, I read that David Gates was born on December 11th, like me. That Sunday night, Bread's music made me realize something I never wanted to hear before : it made me realize that I am a musician.

The guitar magic of Larry Knechtel. A great one.

David Gates has got to go down as one of the all-time greatest singers ever, his soft soothing voice and the great lyrics simply cannot be matched today. Always loved, and still love Bread. Would have loved to see them in concert live but these vids are all that's left, and so

Grandioser Song ❤❤
Unvorstellbar dass heutzutage irgend ein sogenannter Superstar jemals so ein Lied komponieren und mit dieser Hingabe singen könnte 😢😢😢.

Bread had a string of tremendous soft rock hits during the short while that they lasted. The songs themselves are eternal...

Larry Knechtel played the solo. He also played piano on Simon and Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water". The reunion concert featured studio guitarist Dean Parks on lead and Larry on bass. Bread was such a talented band that you had to read the credits to see who played what on any given song. With the exception of drummer Mike Botts staying put, the guitar, bass and keyboard parts could be played by any combination of the other three. Simply amazing and unheard of.

My first concert was a Bread concert in 1972. Seals And Croft was the opener. I was 15 years old. I have to say, I really didn't appreciate them as much as I should have. Their music is timeless. (edit) Seems it might have been England Dan and John Ford Coley.

I read the comments from mine and younger generations. I had this song in existence for 90% of my life. I had heard it hundreds of times. A month ago, I passed over it. Then, a couple of weeks ago, it got in my head after I woke. So I had to play it. I fell in love with this song. I'm 61.

What do you do when you still need to perform, but there's no audience? These guys sum it up. Haunting and honest.
