According to Barry Gibb he came up with the idea of the bass riff as he drove to work to his recording studio in Miami As you have to cross the bridge and the concrete sections make that da dump da dump bass effect so he came up with this idea to use on his bass track!

Gawd, this is one of my favorite BG songs ever!!! The Bee Gees were a total phenom. I was very young when they were popular, and I hated the way everyone dumped on them yelling disco is dead. Meanwhile, they have to be one of the most talented groups ever. Barry Gibb couldn't write a bad song, and just look at him here, was a total fox! I still listen to their songs, because it reminds me of my youth and even today there is nothing better than these REAL musicians. I wish Barry wasn't alone without his brothers, all of them. Such a shame.

The song was originally called "Drive Talking" in its early stage. The song's rhythm was modelled after the sound their car made crossing the Julia Tuttle Causeway each day from Biscayne Bay to Criteria Studios in Miami.
