Elektron Digitone SINGLE TRACK TUTORIAL

Here's how I made the single track jam from the following video:

I had an idea to try maxing out a track with sound locks and micro timing, in response to some comments about the Digitone's 4-track limit being too.. limiting. Turns out that's not really the case, and you can actually do a lot even with just one track!

Let me know in the comments what you think of this, as it's my first tutorial video; it was unscripted and highly edited! I hope it's somewhat easy to follow.

Note: I used the Reface DX just as a MIDI controller in this video; no audio is being generated by it.

You have a really nice presentation style with no hype but clever and clear ideas.

One thing you could do to maximize one track even more is use note repeats on hi-hats for example. One trig - a lot of sound and more space for other sounds on other steps! Also: arps :)

Your meticulous and thorough work is truly impressive! It's very inventive. It's a shame you no longer create new videos.

I just got my Digitone and loved this tip. Super helpful!

Great tutorial; it helped me a lot as I am new to the Digitone and the Elektron world.

You can do some really great work on fairly limited gear if you know what you're doing, and you definitely know what you're doing. Great job.

I have a drone as the first trig, want it to play through all 64 beats have set LEN to 64, problem is anything else playing on the track will end the drone, am using different pitches but anything coming in gates off the drone, any ideas?

Considering you own a Reface DX, do you feel the sound sculpting ability of the Digitone to be limiting? Is one more "enjoyable" to sculpt sounds?

Genius people really don’t realize the elektron sequencer’s capabilities makes 4 tracks literally irrelevant actually it’s a lot, I think the same on the OP-1 once you layer your overdubs lol

Excellent video. One obvious point to note, that got me as a new player, make sure you do not have QUANTISE on for the track you wanna push your trigs around because that will wreck it.

Hey actually I must be doing something wrong. I have a KICK and a CHH sound in my sound pool. I have loaded the kick on trig 12, and CHH on trig 13. I have pushed microtiming of trig 12 to full right. When playing they seem to hit at same time but the first sound is gated by the second.

What have I done wrong?

The issue isn't that it can't do the normal elektron thing with the parameter locks, it's that the digitakt has 8 tracks and that what people were expecting. Four is probably enough though.

Curious - did you learn these techniques via the manual, experimentation, or are these standard Elektron "daw-less" editing techniques that work across their product line? I'm new to the Elektron experience, so a lot of things just were not intuitive out of the box, as much as I love the sound and I'm afraid my head would explode with 8 tracks to think about.

Impressive! But it's still only 8 voices shared on 4 tracks, so yeah, it's still kinda limiting. And kind of defeats the point of using 1 track so much as you still use a lot of voices. But a cool example of what you can do with Elektron's sequencer nonetheless. (And "limiting" is not bad, it's actually good for creativity imo).

The way your hammer them keys 🎹 you’ll Ned to replace them or get a new one.

Great video but a lot of work for just getting a few notes in the same track isn't it?

While this is awesome trick, I don't really understand the benefit? Does it not still consume the polyphony of the device? Or can you do the same on remaining tracks and effectively have a much bigger composition?
