I looked it up, and it’s true! Some Irish soldiers in the U.S. Army didn’t like fighting fellow Catholics and changed sides. Look up the San Patricios (Saint Patrick's Battalion). It was led by John Patrick Riley. In his honour, and to commemorate Saint Patrick's Battalion, a bronze sculpture was erected in his birthplace of Clifden, Ireland, as a gift from the Mexican government.

The St Patrick's battalion. The oppressed and starving people of Ireland realized that they had more in common with the Mexicans So they switch sides and almost all of them paid with their lives. The ones that weren't killed in battle were hung. Truly honorable men.

My aunt is red haired and green eyed. I'm further south than Mexico. I think they liked the Mexican women so much they kept going further south.

We even had a president of Irish descent: Álvaro Obregón.
"Obregón" being a derivation of "O'Brien".

"A little-known chapter in U.S.-Mexican history is that of El Batallón de los San Patricios or “St. Patrick’s Battalion.” In a nutshell, St. Patrick’s Battalion was a group of immigrants, mostly of Irish descent, who fought alongside the Mexican Army during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848)."

Not even joking, even in the states you meet a lot of Mexican-Irish people, it’s wild.

As an Irish woman, I can confirm like 80% of my friends are Hispanic or Latina
My man is Mexican. Our families got the same ordeals. We got so much in common. Every single Mexican family I've met is so similar and Irish family. Huge family, huge parties, we celebrate life and death and everyone shows up, there's always that one cousin who can't cook so everyone eats before they go to that house or brings their own food. There's always a sleeping kid somewhere like a chair at 3am or your cousin's bed. One cousin or uncle or both or more are involved with a gang somehow or the plug. Either that or theres like seven brothers and one sister and there's always a favorite brother. A favorite sister. Grandma's have Catholic things everywhere to the point it's slightly gothic. Only difference is some of the signs and colors. Grandma's house is green and Abuela's is either classic soft orange or a baby blue.
Tell me I'm wrong.

My great great great grandmother was half Huarpe and half Irish. She had dark black skin, green eyes and red hair. Her appearance was so unusual, many artists painted her. She was called a witch too.

Listen, I was born in NI in 1985 (do the math, read a book and figure it out), adopted to America (California), where I was raised by Mexicans, and let me tell you, Irish, Mexicans, and Filipinos...we are all one people with differing levels of melanin, and spice, but defined by our parties and sass.

I love how wherever Celtic people go, they make fast friends with the indigenous. A bunch of American and Canadian nations have a great relationship with Ireland, the Welsh were pals with the Tehuelche (iirc) in Argentina. The one perk of a shared colonised background.
