The Y Balance Test (YBT) is a simple test used to test a person's lower limb function and research has shown to have relationship to risk for lower limb injury such as ankle sprain or ACL injury. It can be used for both the upper quarter and lower quarter. The YBT for the lower quarter (LQYBT) has been thoroughly researched as its protocol is based on research done on the Star Excursion Balance Test.

The composite score is calculated by taking the sum of 3 reach directions divided by 3 times the limb length then multiplied by 100. Subject cannot touch down during the test or place his/her foot on top of the reach indicator. A score of less that 89% has been shown to correlate to an increased risk of lower limb injury.
