Stadia’s days are numbered

Google is sunsetting both of their Stadia exclusive game studios in an attempt to save more money while simultaneously growing their cloud gaming platform. While video games are incredibly expensive to make the plan does seem a little backwards considering exclusives are a proven way to bring new players to your gaming ecosystem.

A Nintendo financial brief revealed that we likely aren’t getting a new version of the Switch anytime soon. It’s a little disappointing to hear since there have been plenty of rumors claiming otherwise but considering how well the Switch is selling now - it makes sense Nintendo would hold out for as long as possible.

This week’s most surprising news has to be Embracer’s purchase of Gearbox Software for $363 million dollars. Embracer also owns THQ Nordiq, Koch Media, and Saber Interactive. All five-hundred and fifty employees will remain employed and Randy Pitchford will maintain a leadership role within the company.

Lastly, EA Sports is making a new College Football game and the broader company will be bringing a remastered version of the Mass Effect trilogy to market May 14th.

Stick around for a casual coming soon section and this weeks 5-second review of Destruction All-Stars. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend.

Maybe now after Cyberpunk was “successful” on Stadia they decided that investing only in third party games is a better choice

Google flopping around Stadia's arms Weekend at Bernie's style like "guys, he's fine, honest!"

You can definitely see parallels between the status of Stadia and Inside Gaming. Both entities have lost major leadership roles (Lawrence and Autumn for IG and Jade Raymond for Stadia), are cutting content (IG Daily and Game development), and are restructuring their staff. Brian you are doing a great job keeping this IG ship afloat and truly wish you the best success.

Google killing off their internal games development will send a strong message to 3rd party developers to not waste resources developing for Stadia.

When stadia lasts longer than this YouTube channel

After the pandemic, they'll probably revisit it down the line. Sharing their technology with Developers is a way for them to not only gain a profit but to keep their foot in the industry. Stadia will still be around for awhile. Only the platform is changing, nothing else. It's more of a business decision than anything else.

Cloud gaming. On paper, good idea. In theory, good idea.
Practically, not at all.

Now will you give Nintendo a call Google!?

Not a bad move. If they shift their focus to the platform and let the already established developers make the games.

Thank you Brian for also seeing Twisted Metal as well in your 5 second review game. I too hope that one day we can all "Meet the Creeper" once again lol

All it has to do is last another 9 months and it will have lasted longer than Inside Gaming Daily.
