Although they remain a tiny minority in France, evangelical Christians are growing in number. There were 50,000 evangelical churchgoers back in 1950, but there are nearly 650,000 today, according to the National Council of Evangelicals of France. In evangelical churches, emphasis is placed on personal conversion and a direct relationship with God. FRANCE 24 takes a closer look at their growing popularity.
A programme prepared by James Vasina, Yong Chim and Gaëlle Essoo.

I left islam and converted to the Christian faith. My faith is based on the bible, so I do not care what kind of denomination a particular christian belongs to. We are all brothers and sisters in Christ. However, I have to admit that the evangelical churches are much more welcoming to new converts like me than the traditional churches. I know many muslims who left islam and became christians - they usually attend evangelical churches.

Yes France! There's still hope. Hope flourishes when there seems to be none.

Outstanding! I grew up in the 1970's as a military dependent in Germany. I remember the empty churches in Germany and France. Glad to see that the trend is reversing.

Protestantism was still being persecuted in France by Rome until the 1930s. With few exceptions it always had been, sometimes with extreme violence (St Bartholomew's Day Massacre). During the War many Protestant churches were persecuted under the Vatican supported Vichy govt. So 50, 000 Protestants in the 1950s makes sense. With the growing secularization of Europe, a strong commitment to minority religious rights by the EU, and the exposure of age-old RC clerical sexual abuse and perversion, Protestantism is now reviving and claiming its rightful place in France. As well as in Ireland, Spain, and other countries as well.

what I hear happening in Mongolia is a great happening too. when the USSR fell, Mongolia, which originally had Buddhism but was forbidden under communist rule, became free again, no one, came to help them but Christians did, of which they grandly embraced and now place their Hope in Jesus and, I think they said, is one of the fastest growing Christian churches in the world.
