Nya - Beauty Comes from Pain (The Short Film)

In Beauty Comes from Pain, A captive angel must first have her wings stolen to find freedom and grow into who she was meant to be. The film is deeply about the journey to womanhood. To leave girlhood, we must inevitably suffer and, to some degree, lose our innocence. The femme hero’s journey is almost always one of descendence before ascendence, and that is what I wanted to show in the short film. It’s messy and sometimes horrific, but the person we become when all is said and done, well, she is worth fighting for.

In making the short film Beauty Comes from Pain, I combined my passion for music and visual storytelling. I have loved fantasy and sci-fi since I was a little girl, looking to escape from a tumultuous home life. I’ve always considered songwriting a kind of internal world-building, so bringing this story to life with the help of some fantastic creatives was thrilling. It helped me realize this is just the start of my journey in filmmaking.

I saw you live in Budapest and your performance was phenomenal! I loved every second of it, when you sang “If only I could treat myself better” tears were rolling down my face, the soul you put into your lyrics, the way you sang like an angel and moved your body with such elegance… the song Hungry for connection - paradoxically I felt so connected in that moment (I can’t find these songs on spotify, are they unreleased or in an upcoming album?)

Your art truly is beautiful, the passion you have for creating combined with lyrics from the soul really touched me. Sending lots of love from Slovakia (also a fellow born and raised in Florida) 🫶🇸🇰
