How much pencil does that thing gobble up with each sharpening? It looked like a good inch or so. That seems like A LOT of waste per sharpening. Is it?

Was going to buy one but I read some of the mechanism is plastic and fails in no time.
Update: so I just bought one. Handle just spins. Broken before I even begin.

Pls note, I bought it on Amazon...I got the piece of which the crank didn't sit in its place. It came off...
I received a faulty piece...

Who doesn't know how to sharpen a pencil? Please include useful information : What type of blades does it have, can you get replacements, which derwent pencils this will work with or any other brands or sizes.
