Thank you so much for this video. I am planning to stay in this area for my first time in Amsterdam and it helps me to get a visual that I can't get from online maps.

Toronto and amsterdam.
2 of my favourite places to visit.
I was in both 5 times last year. 🫠

Dutch probably developed a taste for Indonesian food because of their colonial ties to the country. Dutch returning from Asia are probably looking for what they ate regularly like nasi goreng (Indonesian fried rice). It's rice fried with shrimp paste which is similar to how Filipinos do it. Not surprising since Indonesia and Philippines are practically neighbours.

I would imagine YT-ing away from hometown means fewer "Hey Johnny Strides" hollers. But you never know, there are fans everywhere!

nH hotels is Spanish if I'm not mistaken. And you should always check what a room offers before you book! Hate hotelrooms without a fridge.

Liebekind in German means love child. Dutch is similar, so I'd guess that it has the same meaning (around the 20 mins mark)

Amsterdam is a great place to go for North Americans. Its an ideal destination for "Europe for beginners". First and foremost because everybody speaks English. Most signs etc are also in English, it's almost like an unofficial second language. Kids start to learn it in primary school at age 10. Also most English spoken TV and movies are in the original language and subtitled rather than dubbed, as is often the case in for example France or Germany, so if you want to see a movie, you can! Culturally The Netherlands is more like North America than most European countries, New York was once New Amsterdam mind you.

So most visitors will fit right in. Crime is low and important stuff like healthcare and others services are all on the same level you will find in Canada, and usually much better than in the US, as it wont bankrupt you. I would really urge visitors to not just stick around in the old town of Amsterdam but explore other neighbourhoods as well. Johnny has a great video about The Pijp, a much more authentic part of the city with plenty to see and do! Rent a bike or buy a public transport card and go explore!

Hey there...great and simple vids which I like. I was curious if getting an UBER or Taxi was easy in this canal system or would I have to find this rideshare outside the canals?

20:54 A small black car zipped uncomfortably close to you. Is that normal? Seems unusual to be going that fast on such a narrow street.

There a lot of Indonesian restaurant in the Netherlands, because Indonesia was colonised by the Dutch until 1949, so you can call it our second cuisine! 🤤😋✌🏼

There's more indonesian food because it's a staple of dutch cuisine since they colonised indonesia during the VOC years

The one thing I really miss about Amsterdam are the many pissoirs it has. Taking a leak in a big city can be a bit of a hassle.

Dear Mr. Johnny Strides... A walk-about without many shoutouts... But just the same I am glad there is no rain otherwise it would be insane... And if any of those waterways were flushed down the drain, I suppose one would find a shiny ancient coin.... It's a walk-about that people can enjoy, a casual amble, especially at this hour of the morning! !@!#$!! .... Woke me up out of a dead sleep.... I can't count sheep anymore, to help me fall asleep, they all out in the pasture... I can only count sheep when they return home....Anyway.... Enjoyable vlog as always!.... the end... Always in Good Taste... CHEERS!.... Be Supportive and Subscribe... PS... Are we on Mars or is this Amsterdam, I am confused??

Everyone looks in good shape compared to North Americans.

FEBO used to be a typical Amsterdam Snackbar franchise. Now you’ll find it in all major cities in the Netherlands. The company that provides the snacks is called ‘Felix - Bonzo’. They are a Pet food company 😂
