I have always wished that before my life is over someone, somewhere will find a film of Greb in action. Against Tunney or Walker would be the best.

Brother,
Too bad we don't have any videos of Harry Greb

Love reading about both these guys. Arguably the 2greatest light heavyweights of all time and 2 of the most interesting characters in the sport's history. Great video! Really dig you covering the pre film fights in depth. I read their first fight was Greb outpacing & overwhelming Tunney with his Onslaught. The rematches were a story of Tunney refining his approach while Grebb declined physically, by the time of their 4th fight Greb was likely fight nearly or completely blind. Thanks for the video!

This is a really great video! Thanks for doing so / very little info on YouTube about Greb, considering he may well be the GOAT!

Excellent stuff buddy. There was some great info there. Really well put together & narrated. I didn't know of Fight Night Scores. Appreciate this. Bless up 🥊

Tunney didn't win the remaining four fights, the fourth fight was a draw. The second fight wasn't just controversial, but more of a robbery as 19 of 23 ringside reporters thought Greb won decisively.
And the third fight is often described as a controversial win for Tunney.

86, Another well done video about two of the greatest boxers in ring history. Their rivalry was composed of five different fights, that were fought at break-neck speeds, with Greb winning the first fight, and Tunney winning the next four. All of the fights were classic knock-down drag-outs matches. 86, I've often pondered "why" Harry never fought the likes of Sam Langford..From 1916 to 1920, Sam still could wear out the top fighters of that day, with exception to Harry Wills. Now, that would have been a great fight with the great Sam Langford going up against one of the greatest middleweight champs, Harry Greb, of all time. During the 1916 to 1920 period, Sam was on the downhill slide. But he was so great even the best of the best ducked and dodged Sam. Harry Greb was not one of these types! Harry fought some big name fighters of his time. A few of these opponents had already fought Sam, to their regret. Gunboat Smith, a large heavyweight, that had title aspirations, would state later that Sam Langford had "wrecked" him as a fighter, because of a severe beat-down in the ring. Gunboat fought Greb and didn't make it through the first round. Other big name fighters that harry and Sam both fought was something like this, relying on my elderly memory bank; Kid Norfolk, Willie Meehan, Tiger Flowers, to name just a few. I'm not sure why this great fight of fights never took place, but it should have. My money would have been on Sam!

In the first fight Greb had to keep stopping so the referee could wipe the blood off his gloves. I own the Boxing newspaper for their second fight and the reporters say the only way Greb could have lost was if he’d lost points for his, what he calls, rough house tactics. I have been told though that instead of disqualifying Greb they just let the fight go on and gave Tunney the decision.

My friend I love your posts especially since I’m off Facebook to talk boxing. Greb won possibly every round in their first fight and in modern times it would have been stopped. And Greb should have won the 2nd fight as well as was the opinion of the majority. This is saying something as Tunney was a master boxer and ring technician

Great summary on the first Gene Tunney vs. Harry Greb fight. Greb did fought like Henry Armstrong and throwing bombs from every angle while you explained how he gave Tunney his only lost of his career. Keep it up.

Defense for Grebb was more like MA's than Boxing. Hand pawing reminds me of children fighting. It's kind slap happy, but it can be affective. Marciano took it a step further by smashing the arms instead of pawing & Ali invited his arms to be smashed in order to wear out his opponent. That became a kids game called Dead Arm. If you've done it you'll wonder how anyone could even raise their arms after being so numb & weak.

These fighter back in the day were just different, insane that Greb fought 45 fights in a year

Harry Greb was a great middleweight champion, which was his ideal weight class. Greb and Sugar Ray Robinson are the 2 greatest middleweight champions ever. Many boxing historians declare Robinson as the greatest pound for pound fighter.
Harry Greb is right up there with
Robinson. 👏👏👏

Really good, just a couple of observations.
Just seconds into the fight, Greb fractured Tunney's nose in two places.
This fight, if you could call it that, was no fight at all. Would have been stopped by modern standards. I own about 12 different contemporary reports on the fight and NOT ONE gave Tunney more than one round, though one had Tunney staying even in the 13th. Tunney lost two quarts of blood during the fight. This was a massacre.
Greb should have won the second fight. He was robbed several times in his career. And one of the 5 was called a draw, so officially it was Greb 1, Tunney 3 with one even.
Greb was the best of all time and his resume proves it. It's obscene and so far beyond everyone else, he deserves the title. Just a freak of nature that we will never see again.

Thanks! So little info on both of these guys, particularly Greb. Greb may have had the best stamina of all time?

He gave him at least 3 losses is the true story, Tunney had a lot of help w those newspaper decisions - its only the last bout w Greb that Tunney got him. But this Greb is missing an eye, has a broken rib from a previous bout - almost 300 fights and Tunney effectively has 20 lbs on him at this point.

Greb was one of the greatest boxers who ever laced up the gloves. What is interesting about this video is the commentator's statement that Greb could beat any given boxer at any time. I believe it was Tommy Morrison who said the same thing about all boxers 60 years later.

What I find most interesting about this series is actually the rematch, which as we all know according to History, Tunney most of us don't know is that quite a few critics at the time considered the rematch to be one of the worst decision of the more you research Greb, the more you're impress by I made this comment before I finish the video so I didn't know you pretty much said the same thing,
