Bringing an avant-garde aesthetic to the Coke Studio landscape, Mekaal Hasan’s debut as a music director finds him taking a classic ghazal and framing it with progressive and experimental tropes. Unleashing his signature sound, courtesy of a lush guitar tone and Ahsan Pappu’s emotive flute-playing, Hasan creates a carefully constructed soundscape fitting for the themes of rapture and cruelty that Faiz touches upon in his poetry. The silvery vocals of Humera Channa paired with the honeyed tone of Nabeel Shaukat’s voice make for a fantastic combination to take on this humble tribute to Malika-e-Tarranum, Noor Jehan.

To understand this ghazal, you sort of have to know a little background.

During the midst of World War II (1942), Faiz Ahmed Faiz enrolled in the British Army (during British Indian Empire), attained the rank of Captain and was assigned a desk job so remained out of World War II field operations. After witnessing the 1947–1948 Kashmir war (Between India and Pakistan), Faiz chose to leave the army and submitted his resignation in 1947. Even though he remained a paper pusher in the Army, the horrors of war compelled him to have compassion for his fellow human beings, Therefore; his heart that was filled with passion for his beloved took a turn and hence the passion changed to compassion. He couldn't love his sweetheart in the same manner, when his heart kept bleeding while his fellow humans continued suffering.

Hope this helps people understand what was going through his mind at that time.

wow everyone is busy praising singer, coke studio brand but most of people forgot who arranged this song, no none else can be better than great mekaal hasan !!!!
