Tony Rice, one of a kind. Often imitated but never duplicated. It amazes me how his playing and influence on guitarists knows no bounds. I've seen bluegrass flatpickers from all over the world. Who but Tony could accomplish this? If any it's a very short list. I remember my Brother calling me and telling Tony had passed. I cried so hard over a person I never got the chance to meet bit i felt an attachment to Tony. Gone but never forgotten. Rest In Peace Maestro Rice you are loved and missed.

Have you thought about doing a lesson on Tony Rice's intro solo in Kate Wolf's "Like a River"? I think it's just about the tastiest run in bluegrass history, but it's not even on a 'real bluegrass' song.

Gordon Lightfoot really inspired Tony when it came to this. Almost every album Tony was apart of had at least one or two Lightfoot songs on it not to mention Tony made an entire Gordon Lightfoot album. Both were great musicians who are unfortunately no longer with us. R.I.P.

When I saw Tony and the Bluegrass Allstars at a festival in Shwenksville PA his hair had bushed out considerably and he wore a mustache.

Everyone knows his playing was peerless, but people often forget his singing voice was fantastic before the vocal cord disease took it from him.

OK I'll bite. Which Dean Martin song is Tony referring to here?

I find this true of Dark Hollow for example from Grateful Dead. It's WAY better as a bluegrass song
