To Alfred, the man who we truly didn't deserve, but at the same time always needed. The real one, the father figure, who would give his life for his family.

The one who made the bat and raised Bruce. The best father figure anyone could've asked for in a comic. Rest easy old friend.

Alfred's death in the Dark Knight Returns comics was more deserving, dying when his purpose of helping Bruce was served. It's what he would've wanted. Even though, he would've put his own life on the line for the Bat family many times, what Bane did to Alfred was just heartbreaking. Alfred dying of old age in the Dark Returns was a more dignified and fitting way for how he wanted to go, in peace and free of pain.
