Self disclosure is required for people to treat us “normal” and most don’t understand what it is. I’ve found that it’s best not to disclose because it invites further scrutiny and rejection.

So, my 7 year old son has autism and I live in South Carolina and there are just not enough resources here. I just found out about the South Carolina Autism Society today.. Literally today. I'm reaching out to a lady I was recommended to first thing in the morning. I don't understand how I've never been pointed in their direction before.. Blows my mind. From what I've been told about you guys, and mind you, I haven't even spoken to anyone yet, but I've been in tears all day, bc I'm just so grateful and thankful that you even exist, bc I can't even tell you how hard is been. My son had been on a waiting list for almost 3 years after falsely losing the service he had finally gotten the chance to get after having to wait for 2 years, bc I've been going through social services only without anyone to help advocate. The parents of our autistic children have been begging for some sort of help to get more resources, but it falls on deaf ears. It's so heartbreaking 💔 for us as parents. I'm thankful, so so thankful to have even been told about you all. Will be calling Mrs. Nikki Johnson, that's the lady I was told about, first thing tomorrow.

Awareness really means bewareness of autistic people; rather people should be aware & beware of Filicide, coercive torture like ABA, etc.
