#EOSR #CANON #PHOTOGRAPHY

In this video I discuss my love and one BIG frustration with the Canon EOS R while taking photos.

On Paper the Canon EOS R, Sony A7IV, Panasonic S1, and the Nikon Z6 were all fantastic cameras, but they come with whole new systems, lenses, or adapters, as well as post workflows to make it match to other cameras and codecs that I already own.

Choosing the best camera for you often means looking at the whole system, not just the camera itself.

In this video I'll share tips on how to choose the best camera for you.

As Exciting as these new cameras may be, cameras come and go all the time, after you have decided on the budget you have to buy a camera, these are the fundamental questions you need to ask:

What an amazing vlog. Looks top notch... Get ready for 1 million subs. Channels with this much quality don’t stay new for long. Great work.

I had the same issue with the R when shooting weddings. It was so frustrating but the R is a great camera even though it's not as fast as a sports shooter.

Been thinking of getting the EOS R for a photo camera vs the 6d MII or possibly the 5D M4. Love this video and cant wait to see more!

Hi Rafael, thanks for your sharing your views. I am not a professional but I felt the same way when I bought a Fuji X100T after using a Canon 70D. The focusing on DSLR was faster than mirrorless camera. I think that may be the difference between 1DX and EOS R too.

Turn the image preview off and remove from silent shooting you will see a major improvement

If you go into the menu under the AF settings tab 4, there is a setting named One Shot AF Release Prior. I have mine set to Release and not focus and it helped some.

Have you checked if you were on Silent shutter mode 1 or 2? My shutter usually sounds faster than that and I can usually shoot pretty quickly even with one shot

I'm from 5D Mark 3 and I don't see this as strongly as you do. On the contrary, I see many advantages: For example, at an aperture of 1.4, I can always hit the eye (and not the eyebrow) exactly - even if the person is moving.

Nice and great quality video, you definitely need more subs!
oh and its weird you have that delay, dont have it at all in mine... you dont by any chance have the image preview still set to on?

I see what you mean, although I think being able to focus (and track) through the whole area saves a bit of time to recompose and may decrease the chances of missing focus in some situations, so there is a trade-off between precision and responsiveness.
Have you tried the 5D IV or 6D II, are they also slower than the 1DX II?

Yeah man, I mean, the two primary things that make the 1dx mark ii a $6000 camera is it's frame rate and it's auto focus speed. That's what sports cameras like the 1dxmkii are developed for is fast focus and fast frame rates to be able to capture fast movement. I can definitely understand how you'd be frustrated if you're used to shooting on a 1dxmkii and used to that responsiveness, but that delay is basically the price difference between these 2 cameras.

Most people who aren't shooting sports don't actually need that responsiveness, but now that you've tasted it and it's something that you've gotten used to, it might not be something you're able to come back from lol

Great video though, love the quality of production

I don’t have that shutter button delay with my R. I am using the control ring adaptor. I have a RF35 also and it’s quicker than your R’s trigger response. I don’t know what’s wrong with yours. Maybe the ND adaptor? Or camera setting?

No lag I can detect with RF lens and I have owned 1 D bodies.

+1 Same for me... I have the 1DX (first version) and I am also frustrated... Canon can maybe release a firmware or a new PRO EOS R camera...

maybe just get the 35 mm f1.8 stm IS. its small, super compact and pretty fast. try it at a store. You may see a difference.

maybe Canon will understand that for the Expert R we need a true 5DIV in R body. And only like this it will be a sucess.

Solution #1 lower your expectations. If you pay 1/3 the cost expect 1/3 the performance. With that said the EOS R is a monster value. For just the focus system and not having to calibrate your lenses to get tack sharp images this is an easy buy over the 5d4. Add eye af, clog, native rf and EF compatibility... the EOS R is a winner.

Solution #2 It sounds like the real problem here is that the 1DX is too big to take on trips and not that the EOS R isn’t capable enough. I wonder would people complain that the 1DX isn’t professional looking enough if it was the size of a 5D 😂.

Solution #3... although a bit slower, it’s not nearly as slow as you demonstrated and the difference is barely noticeable. It’s def the settings. My EOS R never hunts nor does it take a long time to focus. Check focus priority... on max I got slower trigger times. I think on max it double checks to guarantee the shot. I assume the opposite for release priority... it probably doesn’t care if it’s focused or not. I set my focus priority to the middle (default) and never miss (because of the trigger release). My opinion is the middle setting of focus priority fires as soon as it locks and that’s what I want. In portrait settings I may use max... why not.

Canon has a solution. Using RF glass is faster focusing. New technology.
