The more I see of Silat, the more I am impressed. This is a really good demonstration of the merits of (traditional) martial arts.

The guy in the black trunks has got some heart to keep coming forward the way he did taking every kick his opponent threw. Maybe he needs a different art more suited to his body type. He has guts.

Three Styles of Pencak silat :
1. Self defense : Extreme and Danger, looking for the fastest way to conquer your opponent.
2. Competition : limited by many rules.
3. Entertainment : emphasizes performing arts.

Im a big fan of Pencak Silat! I hope this kid will add some ground game into his repertoire of skills..and maybe more aerobic :) ..I admire that he used some technique that is really risky to do :) ..Lots of Respects and wish him all the best!

For you guys who thought that the white trunks didnt do any silat move. You are wrong.. SO WRONG.. You guys need to learn silat first, really.. His kick is side T kick to attack the enemy when he/she trying to get close.. And his style of blocking and kicking.. Did you guys heared the coach said "sapuan or sikutan atas or sikutan"?? That was silat technique.. So, pls learn that first b4 judging some ppl tech😃

By the way, im a silat martial artist too... If you guys wanna know more about silat, feel free to send me an email

Ok, this is by far the best example of Silat In the ring. You can’t see the holes in the system, mainly groundwork but this guy systematically destroyed the black trunks. I’ve been training in Silat and am a firm believer. That being said, it still needs some good takedowns and ground work, but that’s easily added with training. Great job!! Love hearing the corner asking for an ascending elbow at the end lol I can hear my guru’s voice saying the same thing to me when I was training. Siko atas!

I don't have anything against any style. I even like silat, especially Maul Morney. But this two guys are weak. That is why this fight doesn't tell anything about effectiveness of styles.

That kid he was fighting had no training whatsoever. That was like taking candy from a baby. He should have ko'd him in the first min.

I looked up this video since it has been such a long time since I have seen this video. I was there. The guy in the black shorts (my friend now, something different back then), did have capability. I also know who is cornerman was since it was my dad. My dad is very knowledgeable when it comes to fighting. There's no background story at put into place but basically, my friend was stubborn and he really wanted to do MMA. Instead of letting me and my family teach him how to fight, he let his friends who didn't have any experience at all, teach him and because of that, he believed he was ready and there no talking him out it in order to get proper training first. His skills aren't that great yes, but to be able to withstand all those hits for as long as he was able to (and it being his first fight) is pretty impressive to me. I'm hoping that one he actually lets someone properly train him without being stubborn so that he gets better and can actually win a fight.

I agree with Aaron... I also agree with the gentleman who emphasizes the better training method. All things being equal.. as they mostly are in experience during MMA matchups.... the Silat practitioner was better trained in his skill set standing and on the ground. Very impressive work in fact.... I would like to see the Silat practitioner after 10 fights of MMA... his evolution of expression will be a

In traditional silat, blows to the face are forbidden to keep with Islamic shari'a. All the silat techniques are made to break every bone if one's body though, while leaving the face intact
