Technology is finally innovating diabetes management. With the advancement in technologies like continuous glucose monitors, traditional insulin pumps are evolving into smarter devices that can automate insulin delivery. Medtronic and Tandem Diabetes are the only two companies to offer hybrid closed loop systems. A community of diabetics are also hacking pumps to do the same thing. CNBC’s Erin Black just switched from the hacked system to Tandem’s Control-IQ and takes a look at how insulin pumps are getting smarter.

*My daughter drinks lots of water and urinates with the same rate, there are no other symptoms to show if those have anything to do with diabetes. This is a good information that I have gone through **Diabets.Care** She is 2 years 9 months, hale and healthy, have not done any blood test. But I am not certain if one can get diabetes at such a tender age. Please I will like to know more on that*

Diabetic for over 50 years. When I was first diagnosed I had to pee into test tubes and drop a tablet in to get some vague idea of what my BS was. Control IQ with Dexcom G6 is a total game changer. Seriously, I would drive out to San Diego to thank them personally if the pandemic wasn't here. One other thing they should point out is that the CGM lets your spouse sleep rather than worry that you might be dying in your sleep.

Tandem pump with a dexcom G6 has changed my life after 20 years carrying a T1D diagnosis. That is not an exaggeration. Also did for my husband who can sleep not worrying my blood sugar is dropping out of control overnight.

Too bad in the US the cost of these life saving devices is so expensive. In some EU countries the cost is fully subsidized and that's great if you're a type I diabetic. The taxes are much higher but at least if you are diabetic you don't have to spend so much in insulin and kits.

I’ve been on control IQ For almost 4 months ? Now? And honestly it’s making me feel like I was before I was diagnosed 4 years ago

Great video! My T1D diagnosis was in 1963. Over the years I have worn 3 Medtronic, 1 Asante SNAP and 1 Animas Vibe pump, and have used Dexcom sensors since 2010. I began wearing the t:slim X2 in 2019 and began using Control IQ in February 2020. It's great for someone who has had severe hypoglycemia unawareness since the 1970s.

This video provides a concise description of the differences between T1 and T2 diabetes and it shows what people with T1D must do to control their disease. I will recommend the video when people ask about my pump or want more information about diabetes.

Now my Blue Cross Blue Shield ins plan has a 2500 deductible for what they call, durable medical equipment. So now all my pump supplies are out of pocket until 2500 has been met, but before was a 60$ copay. WTF??? Its expensive to be a compliant diabetic

hah i just updated my pump to control iq yesterday. i wanted a loop system but didn't feel like doing the work to find an old insulin pump... but so far i'm liking control iq. doesn't work as well as a real pancreas, but its much better than doing it all yourself.

Medtronic was the only reason why I didn’t want an insulin pump. I got scared. Im glad my insurance company didn’t approve Medtronic either. My doctor is helping me get a Tandem and I have Dexcom g6. I love the g6. Game changer!! If I knew about this stuff, I believe I wouldn’t be partially blind right now but oh well. You learn!
