Synchronizing Metronomes

This video illustrates the temporal synchronization of metronomes coupled via a common ground plate. This (well-known) phenomenon goes back to the observations of Christiaan Huygens (die Pendeluhr: Horologium oscillarium, 1763).

Similar to dancers on a full and sprung dancefloor. For most dancers It becomes almost impossible to be out of step with the floor and yet there's still the occasional exceptions who manage it every time.

Wenn die Metronome unterschiedlich schwingen, ist die resultierende Schwingung des Gesamtaufbaus (Plattform & darauf stehende Metronome) unregelmäßig.

Sehr beeindruckend. In einem Orchester funktioniert das auch. Der Dirigent gibt das Metrum vor und alle Musiker synchronisieren sich darauf. Schwierig wird es erst, wenn Kollege XY meint, das ist zu schnell oder zu langsam und dann versucht, gegen den Dirigenten sein Tempo durchzusetzen. Als Mitmusiker ist es immer wieder spannend, wie es dann weitergeht. Zwingt der Dirigent dem besserwissenden Kollegen sein Tempo auf oder andersherum?
