I think the pill shaped hole is much more practical than a notch because
1: it is smaller in size
2: it is not around the point of focus of the screen, that is at the middle of the top edge where most of the important content might be located
3: because there is a little space at the top of the hole, you can have an idea about what's going on behind the hole, so your brain automatically fills in the area
4: it looks much better and cleaner when compared to a notch.

Single tap on the locked screen...the phone then displays the area where you have to use your biometric...you can enable that from the settings

Watching this on my galaxy s10 prism white. It looks even better than the S10+ with a single hole cutout and amazing 6.1 inch display which makes it very comfortable for one hand usage.
True Bezeless beauty.
P.S. Battery backup is not that impressive still doing fine.
