Looking at a mint 1970s RSV-CE published by Thomas Nelson. It was in the box and appears to be pretty much unused.

Great find! The RSV-CE is one of my favorite translations. Luke 1;28, regarding Mary, is also changed from "O favored one" to "full of grace", which I prefer. It also reintroduces "and fasting" in Mark 9;29.

It's great to see a video from you.

Timely, as I just completed reading the RSV gift and award bible that I was given (as a Lutheran 3rd grader) in 1971. It's a Melton gift and award version (Protestant canon), very much like one from the same publisher you reviewed in an earlier video. While I had taken it to church school classes as a child and young adult, I hadn't read it "soup to nuts" until this year.

The layout doesn't look too bad, even if the gutter is frustrating. At least it doesn't look like a dictionary, as so many other Bibles did at the time.

If I get a new Bible, and it comes in a box I keep it in the box, when I am not using it!

Oh, wow! That's a terrific find!
But you're pulling a fast one on us: you said we'd next see a new video in December...

Why would the ribbon be frayed if it was kept in the box at most times?

Yes, there are Explanatory Notes at the end of the Old Testament; you missed them completely. Had you read the Introduction, you'd've learned that, other than the addition of the Deuterocanonical books to the Old Testament, no textual changes were made to the (canonical) OT. This edition disappeared for many years - I suspect the appearance of the American Catholic bishops' New American Bible was a factor - but resurfaced in 1994, thanks to Ignatius Press, which is the edition I myself own. FYI, there is also an RSV-2CE that came out around 2006, I believe, but the original 1966 edition you had there is a better edition.

And, please, next time, try to restrain your exuberance when you review a bible, especially one that such a GREAT FIND. ;-)
