I didn't see the date this was posted, so I thought this was going to be talking about Nintendo having Gay Marriage in the new Fire Emblem game. It took Nintendo a shorter amount of time to realize that gay marriage was okay than it took the US.

As a programmer, you actually have to write extra code to only allow a M/F option to marry, otherwise the default is never to regard that gender variable in the first place.  So, yes, Nintendo had it in the original game unintentionally and had to proactively write in the IF/THEN/ELSE code that recognize the gender variable.  It was not a glitch.  It was unintentional coding.  There's a big difference.
