I first met daniel when i was 8yrs old, at a Renault world series event at Silverstone (my dad worked for Westbourne motors ho have a clio cup team) so i had full access to the paddock. This was back in either 2007 or 08 i wandered off to go look at the race cars and ended up in his teams garage (as cute kid in the paddock you can get into places you shouldn't as long as you dont get in the way) and a young Daniel ricciardo spots me and offered to show me around the car. By the end of the tour i must have talked his ear off about how i was doing karting and how i was gonna be a F1 driver. I remember that it never once seemed like he was bored of this random kid that just wandered i to his garage. Ftastt forward to 2018 and i work in security and worked the VIP lounge for F1 live in trafalgar Square. At some point i mustered up the courage to talk to him and mentioned that day. His smile doubled instantly and he hugged me and asked how the karting went. I basically said i wasnt good enough (cos i wasnt) and he stopped me and said did you enjoy it? Obviously i yes as i love racing. And then he said "you can never fail at something you love doing. You just find out there are other things your better for" i took those words to heart and over the last year or so seeing his struggle with mclaren and the way hes come back from it. He proved his words true. Refused to fail at something he loves and got back to his best. Overall the coolest person ive met in my life and 1st class human
