I take a FIRST EVER look at something being used by specialist military forces. This tactical tarp is due to be on the civilian market soon and is quite possibly the future of bushcraft gear.

This is the Tactical Insulated Tarp System designed and created by Brigantes.

Here in Norway they have a similar product called a fjellduk (mountain cover) by a company called Jerven(wolverine) which has been used by hunters and the Norwegian services for +-30 years....amazing piece of kit, versatile and very hard wearing with a 10 yr guarantee 😳. Love the channel keep up the good work 😎

This video was recommended to me about April, and with the Tactical Insulated Tarp, aka T.I.T. for short. I thought it was an April fools joke, turned out to be pretty useful bit of kit in certain cases. Keep up the good videos! :)

I use a very similar method to your secret Velcro one. If ever I hit my thumb with a rock inserting pegs I invariably end up squealing like a pig, causing the surrounding wild life to think "Phew, it's just a pig putting up a tarp" Cheers Nick.

It would be interesting to compare this to a jerven, they are both in the same price bracket (depending on which Jerven version) and I suspect the Jerven is a more adaptable concept (removable liner etc). I toyed with the idea of a Jerven, but thought I wouldn't get the use for the price, so I bought a swagman roll and poncho instead....brilliant bit of kit. I've used the swagman as a lightweight sleeping bag, a sleeping bag inner, a blanket, as a bivi liner, as a poncho liner (thought its a bit too warm it in UK). Now that I've got the swagman I really don't see the need for these more expensive concepts.

I've got a 243cm x 143cm version of the Jerven mountain bag (also got a smaller one), and it's my main tent/tarp/poncho/post hunting tool.

It makes you feel we've finally beat nature properly.

I use an Army surplus blanket as a capote wrap as in the N American style so it acts as a coat
Add a poncho to that and you are waterproof, either as a poncho, wrap, or tarp
For $40...
And it works very well

Great video. Interesting bit of kit. You may want to take a look at the Helikon Tex swagman roll. Blanket, sleeping bag, poncho and under quilt for a hammock in one. Works inside a poncho as a liner too. Superb bit of kit, poncho when sitting around camp, extra warmth at bedtime. 👍🏼

Very nice piece of kit! It seems to be inspired by the Jerven Fjellduken, which is incredibly useful in the colder months. I really like the dual sides of your tarp. The camouflage side is quite reminiscent of an old WW2 era Sumpftarn (swamp or marsh) camouflage. It is a very effective pattern. Cheers,
Jess

Pretty neat. I can definitely see this doing a job for folks working or living outdoors in the colder months. Multi use items are definitely the way to go to save space/weight, even if they may not do each job individually as well as specialist bits of kit.

I think it also needs a label that says "This way up" or, something that you can see in low light. You dont want to be mucking around in the dark trying to get in on properly. I do like the rest of it though and agree with your analysis. 👍

Looks like another modified poncho liner and choices in the market are good but the swagman roll and the mountain serape look alot more comfortable to wear. Their zipper could be fixed with a reversible pull tab and agree that it could use couple more tie down points

Great video, interesting bit of kit. Be interesting to hear how it holds up on a icy/frosty☃️ day.

Would have loved that for when I was in NI on ops sitting for days in a hedge.

Looks good. Funny thing is when I first saw the camo pattern all I could think was that it looked like the camo used in the movie "Return of the Jedi" when they were in the forest.
Still looks like it would work, just funny.

Hello Nick. I think the four-sided shape is called a Trapezoid. Just saying.
I'll get my coat on the way out.

Essentially a Jervenbag. I have had one for years.Much heavier but then it has a lot more insulation (for use in Scandinavia, so makes sense) and it is physically larger.

As several other comments already suggest, this product is very similar to the norwegian Jervenduk. What is interesting about this, is that members of the norwegian military use this piece of equipment to make a shelter that we like to call a cocoon. To do this you just suspend the two corners to two trees or a ridgeline so that its barely above the ground or slightly touching. When you lay a sleeping pad inside and lay down in it its essentially a suspended tube ( still on the ground), but because of the zippers you can protect yourself from all sides, its waterproof and insolated and becomes a shelter and sleeping system in one, and takes little time to put up. «top tip» if you suspend it with the zippers up its easier to climb in but during heavy rain its recommended to have the zipper facing down and crawl in from the sides. I bet you could put this model up in a similar matter. I dont know if this model you have is as warm as the jervenduk but we rangers in the norwegian army can sleep in cocoons during the winter without sleeping bags. Would love to see you test out that model in this fashion. Love the channel and keep up the good work.

Ive run 'tuck tape' along zippers to avoid that pinch. Blue is stronger than red (and less conspicuous).

I like keeping a couple tarp clamps which help for odd setups and weigh very little.

Small, light and waterproof. Living off of a motorcycle and sleeping in the wilderness this ticks a lot of boxes, especially now winter is here. Really don't like the white though and would like to see how it performs in the rain/long term. Nice review mate!
