This video tours Arp 107, two galaxies that collided hundreds of millions of years ago.

The journey begins and ends on a new mid- and near-infrared image from the James Webb Space Telescope, and includes a fade to the mid-infrared view from Webb.

Webb has captured the pair of galaxies in the process of merging, which will take hundreds of millions of years.

Can you imagine being on a planet around one of the stars between two galaxies? Just wherever you look, hey, galaxy.

This is great! Condenses a LOT of info into 3 minutes, and is both fun and super informative in the process! Love the clear explanation, learned a ton! Looking forward to more like this :)

Not sure how this showed up on my feed but this is fascinating 🤯 I forgot about the James Webb telescope until just now and am looking forward to more content! Just…wow!

Thank you for this informative and clearly presented video. I appreciate the use of an extremely clear narrator, and the built in subtitles very much. This format is spectacularly effective for special needs classes, but also for audio impaired, and non native English speakers. Excellent 👍

Don't see many blue coloured elliptical galaxies. Must have created a lot of new very massive stars.

Lights left those galaxies when dinosaurs were still roaming on Earth.

Sometimes in the night im thinking about the universe and i feel like im on edge of having a panic attack and lose my mind when i start to realise where we live and what exists out there.. Life must be a dream..

i always get a kick out of reading the top comments and then sorting to the newest.
the former are usually fairly well written and filled with the wonder of the images,
while the latter are either dismissive or outright ill-informed *and* dismissive.
(and some cannot even be parsed)

There's a button I can press for closed captions, nobody needs these hardcoded subs distracting from the beautiful imagery.

The James Webb Space Telescope was launched December 25, 2021 as an upgraded replacement for the Hubble Telescope. The new (JWST) is the largest, most powerful and complex telescope ever sent into space. It has already identified extensive and undiscovered new scientific data. yet just shut it down. The 'Voyager Golden Record' was launched in 1977 and it contained a variety of our planets natural sounds, musical selections, and 55 spoken languages and greetings. Although it was intended as a greeting to other existing life forms. I believe that the James Webb Satellite, traversing extreme distances into space, also is representing of our planet. existence Why then has the satellite been completely disabled by NASA, and gone dark?

How is it helping mankind?
Lets focus on our own solar system and our neighbouring stars and than our own galaxy!

It looks more like an elephant with a trunk shooting out a white gas. .

0:13 I dont know what amazes me more in this picture. The 2 galaxies crashing up close. Or the possibly thousands of tiny galaxies all far off in distance of the background??? Just wow... And this is just a close up of galaxy Arp 107 thiat is 465 million light years away from earth... Still just wow... Make you think we really dont know anything about the Cosmo...
