I thought you meant like chicken eggs and I was like "go girl, put them in the freezer" 😭

Hi! I’m actually an embryologist in the US. I would totally recommend looking around at other IVF labs as prices and techniques can vary. Like using micro-droplet fertilization is much cheaper than ICSI. Also call your insurance company and ask them about their coverage.

i'm 31 and kind of mulling over this sort of thing, too. i'm starting to feel like it just makes more sense (for me) to give a home to a child who has already been brought into the world and needs a safe, supportive home. for me personally, my child having the same DNA as me doesn't really matter.

Edit: I'm genuinely intrigued by folks who say only "a special type of person should be able to adopt", coded to mean that only very patient, service-oriented, selfless people should. My question is, shouldn't ALL parents be held to that standard? I say that as the oldest of 8 kids by two parents who were a combination of alcoholics and domestic abusers.

Make sure to educate yourself on the risks and possible implications this would have on your health on the longterm before going ahead. This is a billion dollar industry and the health of the women is overlooked for the sake of profit.

My doctor said that most women can get (safely) naturally pregnant well into their early 40s and that IVF shouldn’t be looked into unless you need chemo or plan on having kids after 45.

Her saying that gave me a sense of ease

You can safely get pregnant until 40 and the egg freezing business preys on woman who are still fertile by scaring them into freezing their eggs when they didn’t need to yet. Make sure it’s something you need and look into family history. If your mother and grandmother both conceived kids older or very easily you are likely the same way. My grandma and my mom both got pregnant while taking the pill because they were both very fertile. The week I got off the pill I got pregnant, don’t be scared into it because you can likely get pregnant after the age of 30. People push 30 as the cut off when it’s more like 40. If you want a family, nows the time to focus on saving money and seeking men who are ready for children and long term relationships. It doesn’t at all need to be your whole focus but it’s definitely something to consider.

Please follow up with this. I’m into freezing my eggs one day but the resources out there are hard to find. Thank you for bringing up this amazing and beautiful topic.

It feels like a punishment, robbery & “insurance” that may or may NOT work when you see those prices in print. I was so traumatized by just the investigation of this process, it was tough to feel like it was an empowering “choice.” This is definitely a path for women with money they don’t need.

Have you thought about doing it in another state? I'm currently going through IVF right now here in Arizona, and I haven't even spent as much money as what you would just to freeze your eggs in NY. I recommend doing more research in other states just in case you don't want to travel abroad. I also did my research, and Mexico has good fertility clinics for a quarter of the price of what you would pay here but decided to just do it here to avoid all the traveling. Best wishes in whatever decision you end up making ❤ love your videos by way 😊

This is one of the reasons I will adopt if I have kids. If you go through the State it is extremely inexpensive, even free once you factor in govt supports and tax benefits. Plus don't have to worry about bringing a new human into a worsening climate crisis and possible economic collapse, when there are already so many babies and children who need loving families. I know lots of people have the instinct to create their own, but adoption is the best choice for me. I hope more people will consider it.

I’m so stupid pondering how can it be so expensive to freeze a few chicken eggs 🤦‍♀️ only understood it was about ivf part way through 😂 and I had read the title too, and just thought it was about how expensive groceries and things are getting 🥴

I got pregnant at 38. It really depends on your overall health. I have always had moderate exercise, ate well, don’t drink, occasionally have edibles and throughout my entire pregnancy kept active and exercised everyday. My daughter is so healthy and strong and I am so fortunate.

You may find other fertility clinics who have better rates. The downside to NY clinics is high prices (but also some of the best facilities in the country). As someone who went through fertility treatment, it’s really unfortunate how expensive it is to start a family for those of us who can’t do it without medical assistance. I think there are a lot of downsides to freezing out of the country (laws and legalities are likely going to be different too). It’s worth booking an appointment with an RE and discussing your concerns

Absolutely insane that there is this much of a cost barrier to take these types of measures for yourself! Kids are bound to be expensive, why make it even worse to preserve one’s ability to have kids. Best of luck to you Maddy.

People can conceive kids by the age of 35 very healthily (depending on the fertility of their family and their own health history)

For those of you saying "just adopt" please note that adopting children should not be used as the solution to fertility issues (if that happens to be the case), always adopt with the intentions of actually wanting to help and provide the child, not using them to help you
