Chosin Reservoir vet Marine Lt. Joe Owen once said he greatly respected the Chinese. He said they were very tough but not good at "soldiering". One thing the Chinese has is a lot of pride, fatalism and hate. They've definitely been in combat since then. There were a couple Chinese soldiers KIA that was related to the UN. Though they were praised, it was more of a universal cause.

Americans haven't fought any large scale wars with trained military since WW2
Either .
They hit tribal fighter's in Afghanistan
Insurgents in Vietnam.
Poorly trained drained out military in Iraq.
I think the Chinese will do very well
They learn quickly, and there are more of them .

The fact that they haven't fought in a war in 75yrs, doesn't mean that they can't execute (for lack of a better term) one successfully. It's no different than sports teams reviewing game plays to analyze and make corrections in their strategy to increase their odds of a "W". They've watched enough wars from the sidelines to see how they're won and lost.

They dont need to match us technologically to beat us. They just have to get close to our technological advancement because the chinese can easily field an army 5 times larger then ours and in 5 years can put to sea a navy twice the size of ours and life means nothing to them. The only thing we can do is insure that our technology stays way ahead of theirs and that we maintain a well disaplined and trained most military so that if we cant beat them with numbers we can at least beat them with quality. Unfortunately the way that standards and discipline have gone down hill in our services over the last 10 years largely because of men and women in the Pentagon like admiral Mcravan doesn't give me much hope.
