Quiet luxury is deeply rooted in classism. People praise people that wear monochromatic looks and blazers but bash people who wear logo brands. As if both don't have something in common, WEALTH. Also, tying a sweater around your shoulders doesn't make you old money. You have to actually be old money to be "old money".

Diana’s style in the 80s was the Sloane Ranger one, and it was an even bigger wealth signifier than the American preppy style, since it was a huge social marker of the British aristocracy I’d love to see your take on it!

These terms were new to me but I def can jump on board with the quiet lux as it’s really just about buying classic staple pieces that work well with one another. It’s the way Europeans dress since they usually don’t have built in closets.

I live in Europe and I've noticed that here this maximalist "Logomania" style seems to be en vogue mostly among Eastern Europeans. It's interesting that in the US it's associated with black fashion instead.

Bravissimo. Loved the ending credits, hilarious. What was the name of the Lindsey Duncan Historical film clip?

I have a pitch for you for a video or a video series: Fashion analysis of each generation. Gen Z, Millennials, Gen X, Baby Boomers, Silent Gen, Greatest Gen.

Questions to explore in the video(s):
1. In a profile of each generation, what was going on in the world that influenced their fashion? What were they reacting to? Economy, social movements, domestic or geopolitics, music, Hollywood, etc. Technology advancements influencing their fashion?
2. When does a generation have the biggest influence in fashion in their lives? Teens? 20’s? Older?
3. Why do teens often influence fashion so much? Do teens really have that much consumer power (compared to people in their 20s+) or is it just that we culturally are obsessed with “the youth” and whatever is the youth are into everyone else follows? Has this changed at all over time - ie. was Gen X the first generation to have greater consumer power than the generation older than them?

Again, you could do one big video or a profile video on each generation! I think you would do an awesome job on a video series like this!

It is unfair to compare a once in a lifetime event as a coronation to the casual everyday wear. Read the room

As a romantic ingenu I will wear a suit so I guess I will always look upper middle class at best lol. I wear the brands Boden, Banana Republic and Madewell with pearls or diamond studs, I like my style. All the other moms are wearing stretch pants so I already look a little too done up at the soccer game.

People will be like Zuckerberg and Gates are humble wearing normal clothes but there's no piling and no fading. They are well groomed for by male standards, clean hands and hair. They look well rested and the biggest thing is their shoes are always clean.

My grandfather used to say the true price of an item is it's cost divided by the number of times you've used it.
A 20$ dress you wore twice is far more expensive than 200$ pair of shoes you can wear every day for 4 years

Adam Sandler has used Stealth Wealth for YEARS without anyone noticing, and it always surprised me how easily people accepted that a guy who makes millions comes to red carpets in hoodies because “hes chill like that”

There's obviously a lot of classism in these aesthetics and I'm glad you and so many others have pointed it out. What I find interesting is that the idea of wearing good quality clothes that aren't likely to go out of style anytime soon ("classic" and "timeless") is what my middle class family has always preached, but solely for practical purposes. It's just easier to get dressed if everything already matches and you don't have to buy new clothes all the time if what you already have doesn't wear out or go out of fashion quickly.

This style is so popular because it is an easier style to emulate by people who aren't "old money" but want the superficial benefits of being perceived as one. Society is also tired of being reminded of how wealthy the rich are through "flashy money".

quality over quantity is a good mentality to have. especially if you do have to actually go to an office like I do everyday, you find in time that you come to miss those staple pieces to build outfits all the time

If this trend makes a dent in fast fashion for more sustainable clothes (even if it’s expensive, but they’re worn for longer) then I’m all for it.

"She saw their *earned* money as distasteful" I love this line. Because everyone know the only dignified way of accumulating wealth is through birth

As someone who's more into colorful, girly-girl and "loud" loooking clothes, I've accepted the fact that I'll never ever look rich till the day I die

Before this trend, it was just known as classic style. It’s very immune to trends, because you can wear the clothes infinitely. They’re basic clothes that last a long time. Now the influencers discovered this style and started calling it different names. I cannot wait for the influencers to move onto the next trend. I’ve been following classic style for 10 years. And I do fear I might end up being associated with influencers.

Don‘t know why this style being called „old money“ 😅 maybe it‘s just in the US, i think. I live in Germany and where i live people wears classic and Minimal styled clothing like this all the time, all years and also me too. It’s simple, easy to put on and go outside without much thought. I don’t like being noticed but i also don’t want to look messy, that’s why this style the best choice.
