Quick trick on how to install and tighten a crankshaft pulley or harmonic balancer with stuff around the shop if you don't have a pulley holder. i hope this helps you with tightening your crankshaft pulley.

I just installed my new balancer on my 96 7.3. I got on and ofcourse the nut spun the crank. I went loosy and jerked it tight with the momentum going the oppositte way. Idk if its tight enough. Think Ill jam the flywheel to double check. I can't say I liked seeing the whole engine snap back ito position after the strap was released. But it definitely seemed to work for you. Thanks. Ghostly, your info and all your videos have set me at ease. One piece of info I haven't been able to find is if my crank bolt needs to be new. I've heard it's torque to yield. Do you know either way. Response would be greatly appreciated

How did you know when to stop when you installed the harmonic balancer?

Impact gun...just make sure it's not strong enough to strip the crank bolt. Torque on the balancer isn't critical unless it's not tight enough and will spin with the accessories on. I usually warm up pulley and freeze the crank(compressed air can upside down) for easier installation. Zip on with impact and once up to equal temperature, the balancer will be grabbing onto the crank snout pretty tightly.

Am I missing something? There is no footage actually installing a pulley, only torquing a bolt.

Good way to ruin your crankshaft and or new pulley… never ever put a ratchet strap on or with any pulley… good video, bad technique
