I actually like grammar. Maybe because, for us non-techies, it makes us feel like we can do science. Anyway, my grammar challenge is when to use 'hva som' or 'hvem som' in dependent clauses.

Thank you, Werner, for the useful links- I especially like the I believe that knowing grammar is very important because if one understands the language's system, one can derive the correct forms instead of relying only on memory. Grammar learning is tedious but also satisfying once the inter-relations are discovered and understood. I enjoy these "aha" moments. I agree with Alexis- prepositions are a huge challenge in every language, not just Norwegian.

I also find the prepositions more difficult, om, I, på, til

I love grammar (in any language), this obviously does not mean that I can successfully apply grammar rules when I am speaking. When writing, I have a little more time to think. At the moment (it really is a beginner's phase with Norwegian) I find it difficult to memorize irregularities in the indefinite plural form of nouns. Just recently I discovered the rule of monosyllabic neuter words, and it is helping.

Inversion is still my bugbear, I think because it is so uncommon in my native language, English. It's also made more difficult by the fact that there are numerous exceptions to the rule, e.g. "Ja, jeg forstår, " and the fact that conjunctions placed first in a sentence don't usually (but sometimes do) trigger inversion, e.g. "Men vi har en ny president nå." Constant practice is my only solution, and also keeping my Norwegian grammar book handy: Louis Janus, Norwegian: Verbs and Essentials of Grammar (New York: McGraw Hill, 1998).

I like how the red/yellow/green approach breaks the grammar into more manageable pieces and makes it more approachable.
Word order and remembering to make pronouns agree with the gender, and when to use what prepositions are some challenges for me. And all the compound words with no spaces. The Kitchen floor vs. Kjøkkengulvet.

I haven't gotten far into grammar but prepositions immediately stand out as difficult. For not being used like the English for all the time throws me, for example.

I have less problems with grammar learning then with remembering new words.

Verb order in phrases. Such as in english "there it is" is "der er det" in norsk, translating literally as.... "there is it." = "Der det er"would be wrong. But i still don't really understand why, maybe it's just a universal rule? Guessing that the verb precedes the direct object in statements/independent clauses.Or comes right after the subject (?) lol

My goodness! Thanks for all the tips about grammar! I can't do any language without grammar. I always learn better with grammar! The only thing that has been difficult is German. That is one son of a gun Tusen Takk,
