In opening up just one of numerous coin packages that my grandfather got at the bank back in 1959 that I eventually inherited along with a massive coin collection that started four generations ago in the early 1800’s - as I opened this roll up for the first ‘by anyone’ since it was purchased at the bank - ALL are 1959D’s in mint condition - as shinny and without noticeable damage at all (except some have the carbon dots on them from just age) - however, they are as nice as any 2023 new penny - all 50 of them came out of the roll in this condition - so thanks to your advice - they all are going in for grading & going back inside the roll so the packaging will be original with the banks name on it. UNBELIEVABLE condition - like 50 shinny little mirrors front & back! So I’ve got my work set out for me to get these graded asap and out to auction - thank you for the advice as it’s really going to be interesting on how it all turns out. God bless and take care…

I have three of them and I contacted Heritage auctions and they said they weren't interested because they don't deal with anything under $5, 000 and I found mine in a coin roll and there's beautiful not a scratch on them

I just opened a penny roll & It is a mint roll 1959 D & the whole roll is uncirculated, absolutely stunning coins & I'm looking at one now that is a doubled die, I will follow this e-mail with a picture of what the roll looks like...

Just cleaned out a backpack that I was giving away... found this! I collect regularly but this seemed worth looking into. Glad I did. One question- how do you know what grade your coin classifies as?

Also, remember that Heritage Auctions and other auction houses regardless of the grade on the coin will reject you. For instance I have a MS 70 2.5 Oz US Army coin minted by the US Mint with only 10K minted and at least two auction houses rejected it stating that there isn’t enough interest in the coin.

If Registry sets are your thing then, go for it, but for me personally, I can appreciate a nice clean uncirculated coin that might not grade MS67, or even a clean circulated coin with nice eye appeal over searching thousands of coins for super high grade examples like these that are even tougher to come by than some of the key dates. Good luck and good hunting and thanks BlueRidge.

I have 59-72 pennies that were obtained by an older guy I knew who recently just passed away unfortunately. He got them way back in the day (uncirculated) and kept them in sleeves and they were never opened and not thrown around or beat up. They look excellent. Should I consider getting them graded someday? I've been collecting coins for about 10 years (casually) but just recently got into it a lot. Thanks for any info.

I have a 1959D but mine has a couple abnormalities on the front, the LIBERTY, the L and the I are smaller than the rest. Also, IN GOD WE TRUST the W is real small in comparison with the rest of the letters, what can you tell me about it, do I have something worth money?

How do you eye ball the grade on this penny are there any guideposts so to speak like the steps on the nickel?
