That was actually real.
They messaged the deputy-commander, and he replied "Nuts!"

My Grandpa was a US Army Ranger & landed on Omaha Beach. He was shot in leg & had his eardrums blown completely out. He remained deaf for the rest of his life. I remember having to use hand signing to him as a child. I miss him.

He did mention Canada during the invasion of Normandy.

I still to this day get goosebumps when I watch something like that. The fact that in a span of just 5 mounts 2 million people died in Stalingrad is just mental. And because corona people think now is unbearable. 2 million in 5 mounts is average 13000 a day dropping dead O_O.

Adolf Hitler will forever go down in history as the man who killed Adolf Hitler.

Mentioned Canadians at least twice.

You get lumped in with the British, probably since Canadian forces are usually under British command.

I have been to Pas-de-Calais in France and seen the vimy ridge memorial. Very moving and thought provoking. Seeing the remains of the teaches was a strange feeling and was shocking at how close they were at certain points. We all owe a debt to those brave people.

As a Yank, I did notice you guys (Canadians) weren't mentioned in part 1 and only a few times in part 2. But if anything you got lumped in with the British rather than with us. Notice at the beginning when he mentioned the Commonwealth nations' role in the African and Italian campaigns (and Oversimplified "corrected" his mistake of putting a U.S. flag over the prairie provinces by covering it with the Red Ensign). And then you guys did get credit for your role in D-Day and the subsequent fighting in France. No more mentions after that, but you did see the Red Ensign move up into the Low Countries as the video progressed.

8:06 Clint Eastwood directed a WWII era film Letters from Iwo Jima showing the Japanese side of the battle that took place there.

Tommy Lee Jones also appears in another WWII era film, specifically the end of it and the first days of US occupation, simply titled: Emperor.
Jones played McArthur and the film covers the efforts to determine if the Emperor of Japan should be tried as a war criminal or not. The film brings up the situation on what led to the photo of the general towering over the emperor.

The Canadians landed and fought at Juno in France. Is that where you got the name for your award?

Also, I've been an amateur writer since I was 14. I'm 38 now, anyway- I seriously get a BIG KICK out of writing a plausible world & fictional nation history of my own fictional nation located on a landmass completely connected to the rest of Europe, located above Spain and west of France. An epic part of writing effectively is imagining then writing as nicely detailed to reasonable amounts what would be going on- I REALLY LIKE writing WW2 chapters! 😉👌🏻

Hey my brothers in the Great White North! Who doesn’t love Canadians, in deed. If someone told me they didn’t like Canada and Canadians, I’d equate it to a person who has lots of piercings and gang tattoos, basically red flags a blazing that this person ain’t right. I’ve seen several of your posts, love them all, and wish I was with you guys, drinking beer, laughing, and enjoying life. Rock on my brothers!!!

Coming from one of the countries colonized by Japan during WW2, I honestly can't help but be impressed by their tactics. The invasion of Singapore especially. The country was under British control and expecting Japan's attack, they did prepare for naval combat. They requested more ships and they got additional troops from India and Indonesia (which was under Dutch control, their ally).

But here's what went wrong:
1. They didn't get enough of the ships, a lot of them were being used in battles elsewhere
2. The troops they were sent were only trained for desert combat. Singapore is a tropical island with, considering this was 79 years ago, a developing trading port city still surrounded by forests.
3. Last but not least, Japan wasn't coming from the sea. They're coming from Malaysia, which is directly north of the island. They literally got invaded from the back door. A really smart thing the Japanese troop did was also the fact that to conserve energy and resources, they didn't just drive down to Singapore in their tanks. They mostly biked as they passed the border.

I was curious how you would react to Oversimplified's snub of Canada and subsequent apology at 0:54 of this reaction video, but you missed it...
