What Happened To Charles After His Mother Was Killed? | Red Dead Redemption 2

I should remind everyone that this video should be taken with a grain of salt. But one of the BEST mystery and myth busters on Red Dead Redemption 2’s Reddit u/RDR2 Germany, has found countless details and hidden facts in RDR2 and is one of the most impressive RDR2 players I’ve ever met. All credit has to go to him on this video. I have messaged him and a few other players on the subreddit and have been told by a few of them that there is a chance Charles may approach Arthur to tell him that his father used to affectionately call his wife (Charles’ mother) “Black Flower”. And that he retreated to a warm area that was secluded and near the water. The only place that makes sense to me after hearing these testimonies that the Scratching Post matches Charles dad’s description. There is a literal black flower located inside and it is located in a warm area of the map (New Austin) and is near the San Luis River. All the ancient Native American artifacts around the property confirm that Charles dad moved there and based on his love for his wife, who was taken from him, he decorated the house that way in her honor. Even the grave marker outside. And if that wasn’t enough, all the empty booze and liquor bottles scattered around the house also confirm to me that Charles dad lived there, as it is mentioned numerous times he fell into a depressive state of alcoholism. Let me know what you guys think? Of course it isn’t confirmed that this interaction exists as far as my testimony goes, however I believe what these guys tell me and I thought that it was a good idea for a video nonetheless even if it doesn’t exist or if it is extremely rare to trigger as I don’t think I have seen anyone ever mention the Native American inspired decor around the house besides the black flower which is known to be foretold by the blind man. Thanks everyone for watching and I hope you all have been enjoying the mystery series! Look forward to the next episode #rdr2 #reddeadredemption #arthurmorgan

You got me right in the feels with that background music. My absolute fave music from the game. ETA: I’m glad to get more Charles lore. He’s such a good character.

Charles is literally the coolest friend but also had a messed up backstory, i like how he was always guiding arthur throughout the story to make him a better man than micah

Wow just wow! Glad this was uploaded! So many years later and still finding out more and more why this game was such a masterpiece! Charles was the man

At first I wanted to accuse you of clickbait but this is actually really well done. I knew about the flower, the location and the old man's "prophecy" about it but I always found it silly that your reward was just a necklace that I don't think even values that much. But if you're correct (which you most likely are) then that is quite an emotional reward. I only wish they added some dialogue with Charles where you give or show the necklace to him. But maybe there might be some in the files, who knows. Great video regardless.

That is a Bat flower in the pot it's a very beautiful and exotic flower and from what I heard it can be temperamental. I actually almost bought one of these from an exotic plant website last year.

Cool detail I just discovered which maybe people already know:

At random camps throughout the world there will sometimes be a dead animal hanging from a rack. Walking up into the deer will give you the option to “Release carcass” which results in a pretty cool animation.

This game is ridiculously detailed. I can’t even imagine how long it took to make. I mean the dialogue is one thing, then there’s the look of the game, but all the secret stuff…are you kidding me!?! I bought the game maybe two years after it came out…I don’t remember for sure, but there was already so much YouTube content with tips and stuff by the time I started playing, it was awesome. I say all that to say, I know the game has been out for a while and people are STILL finding stuff. That to me is unreal. One of the best games ever, no question. I’ve played through 5 times…each time I do it takes longer and longer because of all the stuff there is to do. Best money I ever spent! Thanks for the video by the way.

I wish we could read the notes or letters in the drawer. Congrats on the find. It makes complete sense. I missed the part where Charles mother was taken. I’ve only played this game once but next time I’m going to take my time with it. I’m trying to play Red Dead Redemption 1 it’s just a little harder because the game is older and the controls feel wrong. But I want to play it for the story.

This is such a great video and you did an amazing job linking these pieces together. I’ve played this game so many times and I still find new things to explore and learn about. Thanks for making such good content!

You have developed quite a degree of craftsmanship in the area of conceiving of concepts for videos and practically realizing those ideas into solid pieces of analysis over time. Kudos from me for that.

BTW: You might follow up on the theory that Milton lied about killing Mac and that he captured alive. I always found it strange that the producers of the game did not put a gravestone for him into the Blackwater cemetery for the "pay respect to old friends"-sidequest (or whatever it was called), when they bothered to even hid a cross for Jenny in the wilderness in the Grizzlies. On top of that the inclusion of him as an unseen/only mentioned character into the game never seemed to serve any sensible purpose to me, except to lay the seeds to use him as a protagonist in a later game (to avoid repeating the paradoxon of Arthur being an immensley important figure in RDR2 even though he was never mentioned with one word in RDR1). After all, all the in-game functions that that the character of Mac fulfills are pretty gratuitous: That he allgedly died in Blackwater stresses what a disaster the robbery was. But that is already abundantly clear from what we see at the beginning of the game (the gang on the run in a brutal blizzard, close to freezing to death and to starving, then the gang being stranded in the mountains for 2 weeks or so continuously being in a miserable situation and close to starving; Davey dying on-screen, the death of Jenny mentioned, John lost in the snow, Sean having gotten captured and being in need of rescue...so there is not really a need to add the unseen character of Mac as another only mentioned killed gang member to convey the point that Blackwater was a fiasco for the gang and that they are in a very bad place afterwards). And the other intradiegetic function one may argue Mac serves in RDR2 as an unseen character is that he is used to show that Milton is a nasty guy (by having him mention - or claim - that he killed Mac in cold blood when he was done interrogating him about the gang). But that also is a bit superfluous, 'cause that Milton is an unpleasant fellow is also made blatantly clear though other means repeatedly (killing Hosea in cold blood, even though he was an unarmed captive at the time; displaying racism towards Lenny; besieging the gang in Lakay in a ruthless way, and attacking them in a way that showed not concern about killing a little child that was in the hideout he was having riddled with machine gun fire; his general attitude). So is was not really necessary to have include Mac as an unseen character into the game just so Milton could mention that he killed him to demonstrate, how nasty Milton is, 'cause that point is also imparted to the audience through multiple other means, so that nothing would be missing in that regard, if they had dropped Mac as an unseen character altogether and not have Milton talk about killing him at all. ....So since there is no real point of having Mac included as an unseen character in RDR2 in the way, that he is included in the game, from the perspective of looking at the matter of his inclusion just within the framework of RDR2, I always suspected that the real reason the injected the character (or repeated mentions of him) in the game was to discreetly lay the grounds for RDR3 and connect a future protagonist (of another prequel) to RDR2 in an organic way (to avoid people frowning "Hey, how can this guy be so important to the gang if nobody ever talks about him in the stories that take place later on...?")

It's kind of odd that there is pretty much a clip of every camp interaction on YouTube except the one where Charles talks about his father calling his mother black flower. I think it's safe to say that dialogue doesn't exist. I mean players even found deleted scenes you'd think a modder would've found that conversation in the files by now

I think this is a solid theory with one weak link: there's literally no evidence that Charles' father called his mother "Black Flower". There are no videos of Charles ever seeing this in the game and no one seems to have experienced it directly; they just mention that someone told them it happened.

Without that link, there is no connection to the cabin, the flower or the old man's prophecy. The old man was definitely right about 'being rewarded' and the black flower is definitely significant. There's just no clear connection that it has anything to do with Charles at all.

With all that said, it would certainly make the black flower in the cabin make some sense. Great video!

Ye but that house doesn’t have the bisons even nearby. Closest ones are in Great Plains. Also there is only 1 bed, so…
