Thank you for sharing this video of your sweet Abuela cooking up her Picadillo recipe (from memory BTW). And I also enjoyed her warning about 'hanky panky' : - ) My first wife was Cubana and her mother's family fled Castro's overnight occupation of the island back in '59. Her family was one of the 'storybook' families of Cuba which owned a great tract of land, and one of the cigar manufacturing plants on the island. Lived in a a marble mansion (I saw the B/W photos) and fled literally overnight to the U.S. Lost everything in 24hr...I share that wee story because my mother-in-law shared HER version of the authentic Cuban Picadillo recipe with me at the time and I was instantly hooked! It follows pretty closely to your wonderful Nana's recipe with just a few variations. One of the most important ingredients of the dish itself is the Yin/Yang of sweet/savory. Whilst watching your video I was patiently waiting for the RAISINS! Pimento stuffed olives, halved, peppers, onions, tomato sauce, tomato paste, fresh minced garlic, oregano, basil, capers and RAISINS (towards the end of the simmer so they stay somewhat firm) is the recipe that was shared with me. The 'garnish' of marinated sweet red peppers sounds dandy, but not sure about the sweet peas. But then, differing tastes for differing folks, right? Geeez, now that I've gone down memory lane with all this talk of Picadillo...I guess I know at least ONE of the things on the dinner menu this week! ; - )

I’m always happy to see old Cuban Mima’s and Abuelas get down in the kitchen but man... Italian seasoning and instant rice? As a Cuban I’m hurt!

Oh my goodness...she had me laughing so much. No hanky panky. She reminds me of another cook I follow...also a grandma who lapses into her native language every few sentences. Love it...y mil gracias para compartir sus recetas con nosostros.
