Fender Vintage 1952 Blackguard Esquire • SN: 4125

This '52 Esquire is INCREDIBLE! Everything appears to be original, although some solder joints might have been reheated. The frets are original, and they show the heavy wear we associate with a vintage instrument that is impossible to put down. They measure about .028" and have typical string divots. There's also a hairline crack in the body at the neck joint that is quite solid and was likely repaired a long, long time ago. The neck is quite straight and doesn't offer much relief--about .002" between the 1st and 17th frets. It plays well above the body joint, but there is a slight rise above fret 17.

Beyond that, it shows the typical wear we expect from a vintage piece: dings, scratches, missing color, and finish fading--it's ten pounds of mojo in a five-pound bag! There are shadow marks on the bass side horn of the name Jim, likely from stickers (wherever you are Jim, we salute you for your excellent taste in Fenders!). The original pickup measures 5.97 ohms and it sounds glorious, and all the other electronics look original.

All in all, this is a fabulous example of an early Esquire, and it will no doubt make some Fender fanatic a very, very happy guitar picker! It comes with its original hardshell thermometer case, a signed Wildwood certificate of authenticity, and a flash drive loaded with photos of the instrument and a demo video from the inimitable Mr. Gregory Kochery.

Surely half the reason this sounds as great as it does is because it's microphonic as all hell. I can tell just by the sound... but isn't that part of what makes vintage/cheaper guitars so lovely?
