At the chapter's starting, we were introduced to 2 maps Map 1 and Map 2. In the first map. we saw that it was wrong. locations of places were moved and wrong, this map was made by an Arab geographer Al Idrisi. Map 2 was made around 600 years after Map 1 and this looked a little more familiar to the real map of the subcontinent, this map was made by a French Cartographer this map was used by Sailors. Many words changed with time including their Vocabulary, Grammer, and meaning. India was firstly known as Hindustan. A Persian Chronicler named Minhaj-I-Siraj described India as Punjab, Haryana, and Lands between Ganga and Yamuna whereas Babur described Hindustan to describe the Geography, and the poet Amir Khusrau used the word 'Hind' to describe the geography. How are we able to know about these things? Historians! what are the sources they rely on? Coins, inscriptions, architecture, and textual records. Through this period paper became more widely available. There was no printing press in those days so scribes copied manuscripts by hand which obviously resulted in changes of words and sentences, which resulted in historians struggle to read many manuscripts and guess which is real. In the study of thousand years new technologies made their appearance like persian wheel in irrigation, the spinning wheel in weaving and firearms in combat, new foods and beverages also arrived. Rajputs grew powerful over this period who claimed to be a kshatriya and a caste system arrived. These systems had their own rules. We were introduced to Delhi Sultan Ghiyasuddin Balban whom we were told to have a vast empire from Bengal to Ghazni in Afghanistan which Historians regard these as exaggerated claims of conquests. During the thousand years of history some new religions grew. What we call Hinduism today, this included the worship of new dieties, the construction of of temples. In the middle of the 9th century historians divided the history of India in three parts 'Hindu', 'Muslim' and 'British'. Some Historians follow this today also. During these thousand years the societies of India changed often into economics in several regions.
