Wild Artichoke season

It it once again wild artichoke picking season. This video comes from Real de San Carlos in Colonia, Uruguay. Wild artichokes are an invasive plant and a problem in the campo/countryside here in Uruguay. Their scientific name is "Cynara cardunculus" or Artichoke Thistle and are part of the sunflower family. Native to the Mediterranean, but more specifically Naples, Italy. it was carried by emigrants from that area of the world to arrive in California, Argentina, Uruguay, etc, and proceeded to self propagate, its seed blown along with the winds. Today it is a difficult to eradicate plague.
