This is a 2-in-1 equipment capable of testing Creasing Stiffness / Folding Force and Crease Recovery / Spring Back Force of a printed folding carton as per BS 6965 Part 1 and Stiffness Test (Taber Stiffness) of Carton Board as per TAPPI T-489.

The value of crease stiffness is technically important in the folding of carton blanks during their erection and closure, whether by hand or by mechanical means. High value of crease stiffness may be associated with an unacceptable appearance of the fold line or its displacement from its proper place in the carton design. The crease recovery (also knows as the spring back force) can result in forces which distort the erected carton or cause stress to be applied to closures which reduce their effectiveness. This test applies to all carton board in the thickness range of 200-1000 microns.

A physical characteristic of paperboard which differentiates it from paper is its greater flexural rigidity, commonly called stiffness. For most of its uses, the economic value of paperboard depends upon its bending resistance (stiffness), and because this property is closely related to the amount of fiber in the board and hence to its cost, a quantitative measurement is of considerable interest to both producer and user. Bending resistance (stiffness) of paper relates to a number of end use applications, including wrapping, printing, etc.
