Is the Arteon the best-looking car Volkswagen makes? Quite possibly. Apart from the Shooting Brake wagon version, of course! Tom has already reviewed that car, so today, John takes a close look at the 2022 Arteon R-Line liftback, which competes with upmarket versions of the Mazda 6 and Hyundai Sonata, plus entry-level luxury cars like the Audi A4, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and BMW 3 Series.

This Arteon costs $71,240 before on-road costs. The Shooting Brake wagon is $2000 more. Meanwhile, a Passat R-Line wagon is significantly cheaper, at $67,690.

I love my US Arteon SEL RLine! A great combo of luxury and sport and I love the fact that I rarely see my car in the states. Heads turn often. Love it!

Own this in the US. I have owned for 1-1/2 years and absolutely love this car. It is super comfortable and beautiful. I love just looking at it. The US got screwed on the engine, not getting the 300+ hp version until 2022 but what we have has ample refined power.

Nothing does it better than the Volkswagen. I’ve owned a Polo for 3 years and served me well. The Arteon has gotta be the best out of the large car market

I love the Areton, I had a 140 tsi elegance loan car when my wife’s car was in for a service and then a 2nd hand 206 tsi second hand one as a loan car while my car was in for a service.
I was really tempted but in the end I purchased a 140tsi Passat Business sedan demonstrator. $15, 000 less than the Arteon Elegance and $ 30, 000 less than the 206 tsi but if money wasn’t a consideration it would be your test car and in that colour.

Great review. If my research was correct. The engine is 206KW and 400NM for MY22 Arteon.

Bought one 2 weeks back . It drives very smooth .While driving on a freeway with 350 kms on the odometer, it stalled while ascending a normal hill . Dropped its speed from 110 to 90 kms/hr, despite pressing the pedal to floor, simply refused to pick up the speed.Drove back to Alto Blacktown, Sydney, . Was told some senor in exhaust system had failed . Which would be sourced from Singapore . To my surprise, no loan car was offered, despite my repeated requests. " This is VWs problem not ours. "I was totally confused . Who I am dealing with ??? This is my 3rd VW since 2015. Had no trouble with the first two . My car is still in workshop . I have no loan car to date . Could be an individual dealer 's attitude ??

I get the baby seats are easy to fit, but shoehorning the baby into the fitted seat through such a small aperture is very difficult.

Nice car! but did u guys notice that, vw never have heart to modifying to RHD version. U can see that from their electronic parking brake and cup holders placement.. Didn't make sense at all in RHD, while you put two ice coffee cup in place, u can't control those brake button But LHD, all perfectly well.. Putting at this price tag, strange that they didn't look into that modification at 😒😒😒

Does the Arteon upshift very early in normal driving? I have a B9 Audi A4 which uses the same engine and a similar transmission and it always tries to stay at around 1000 - 1300 RPM for efficiency purposes but the 4 cyl turbo is not very smooth at these RPMs. Just wondering if you noticed any lack of smoothness while cruising around

Cant see why you would buy this over skoda superb sportline, same engine, appears same interior, but skoda is larger with some nicer touches and cheaper
