I hate when I read comments like those: "she is not the same anymore", "she used to be more punk and her lyrics were better", "she changed a lot her music". People understand something: she is not anymore that teenager that she used to be. I grew up listening her incredible music, but it was 20 years ago. She now is a woman, she changed, she had a terrible disease, and now she is back and yep, for sure her music changed a lot, but she still giving us amazing music and lyrics. Singers always change, it is normal, just take a moment and see how Coldplay (e, g.) has changed in the last years, same with Gaga, Katy Perry, Madonna. Change is normal in our society, that is not normal is to pretend that every single thing needs to be similar all the time.
