Ho Family & Friends Surf SOLID Ala Moana Bowl

This is the biggest and best swell we got to see Ala Moana in the last few years! It was nice to see her come back to life. Michael & Mason Ho made it down with a few friends and everybody got some really nice waves. It was cool to see world champion John John Florence out there as well (good luck in the Olympics!).

Solid waves killer surfing, and really cool renditions of the endless summer soundtrack. So rad! I really wish more of surfing could be straightforward and legit like this. So thankful to see Michael not just surfing but absolutely ripping. That bomb drop at the eight minute, 20 second mark With the bottom turn right back up into the barrel would probably only be made by the top 5% of Surfers in the whole world if not less. Super sick!

I remember seeing Michael out there when he was just starting out. One of his first boards was from Sparky. This was around mid 70's. He was also one of the first up and comings like Larry B., Buttons, Dane and others. We couldn't keep up with them.

On a tangent, my only trip to the north shore 20+ years ago, i stayed at the Outrigger hotel near the top facing Ala Moana Bowls and had Tupac's R U Still Down cd playing "Where do we go from here" and "redemption" playing on loop for many hours one night as i stared at Bowls half asleep dreaming of surfing, reminded me of this video. Ignored and heard some of my own lyrics to those songs of course, but relax-tripping as f moment of my lifetime. Thx for a reminder of that, M.
