Eurasian Hobby Meets Fearless Greenfinch

An Eurasian hobby (Falco subbuteo, family Falconidae) perched on a favourite dead branch of a tall tree of Japanese cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa, family Cupressaceae) and began to preen the plumage, as usual. To my surprise, a male of Oriental Greenfinch (Carduelis sinica, family Fringillidae) came flying to perch on another dead branch nearby. The moment of arrival was replayed at 5x slow-motion. I half-expected to witness the moment of hunt or attack by the raptor, but nothing dramatic happened. You can faintly hear the Eurasian hobby calling from time to time. Captured in the afternoon (around 15:40 PM) of late-July 2019 in Japan.
