Families feeling the impact of inflation reaching a 30 year high | 5 News

►Inflation hit a near 30-year-high in January, at 5.5 percent, up from 5.4 percent in December. And there's more pain to come with the Bank of England warning inflation is set to increase again later this year.

Of course, we can talk about numbers and percentages, but it's real people and real families that are feeling the impact. It's the difference between putting the heating on, being able to save money, or even affording the normal weekly shop. Katherine Nash has been to meet one family who are feeling the impact.

I live in Finland and pay 800e rent on a huge apartment with two bedrooms, a garden and Sauna. I pay no energy rates whatsoever- it's all included in my rent. That's electricity, water and Internet as well as any additional services necessary like repairs by the housing agency. The UK has it all wrong.

They are complaining about 5% inflation, which is no laughing matter, but it is 7.5% in the US, and most people think those numbers are more to the tune of 12%, because the analysis does not count everything.

There will be plenty of people that will give up owning their own companion pets; and take them to a shelter for unwanted pets; or they will drive far away from their homes; and leave their pets in the woods; or some other remote areas.
