Supermotos are street biased, dual sports are perfect for most dual sport users who want to offroad 90% of the time and run into town every once and a while,

Dual sports are my favorite category of motorcycle. I've had an XSR900, 2014 Valkyrie, and a 2014 VStrom 1000 but I still have my farkled DR650 and 2018 XT250. I ride mostly pavement but I also don't have to ignore or avoid gravel roads and trails. Dual Sports are great for exploring.

Eventually I'm going to put a 19" when on the front of the DR as I hear it's a great compromise between Street and trail. It already has Cogent suspension front and rear which transformed the bike. My next set of tires will also be Shinko 705s. The XT250 is a great little bike but I think I might sell it to get more metal fabrication tools, a VW Bug, or a Karmann Ghia project car. The DR is great for exploring, commuting, and even traveling.

Your bike is excellent for your needs, as you mostly ride it on road. I ride a KTM 690 Enduro R which I use for everything from enduro trail rides to touring on. It’s low maintenance and very easy to check the valves every 10, 000km. It’s also great fun on the road carving up the corners and keeping up with my mates on more road oriented bikes. I’ve never had an issue with the front tyre sliding out on the road. I’ve been using Mitas and Motoz tyres which also last well.

My KLX300 does fine with turns. I don't have any issues riding it on the road. Got the 21/18 sized wheels on it.

Fun thing about that bad ass SM and dual sports is they are naughty motorcycles. They encourage wheelies, shenanigans on staircases after hours in business parks, jumping truck ramps, etc, plus you can go for a trail ride on them. I had plenty of fun on an XL600 back in the 90s. Current owner of a Husky 701, which has God's gift to big single engines in it, especially after shopping on the Rottweiler Performance site. The biggest problem is the 701 is extra naughty, but darn it if there aren't security cameras everywhere now. It is hard to find a safe place to commit harmless mayhem 🙄

cyclecruza no bike has ever been made that's perfect, as you compromise with dual sport so does the supermoto compromise on 17 inch tyres you said it at 8:53 it all depends on what you as the rider want not what you will be told by someone else

Your bike is still a dirt bike first and foremost, you just put some blinkers and stuff on it and threw on some street wheels/tires. Anyone can make their dirt bike into a more street capable machine but if you go off road with those wheels and tires you’ll just be asking for a crash with any real trail riding which most people who buy a dual sport look to ride more off road and dirt than the street… This video is just your opinion and it’s really arguing semantics in the big picture. I have a Husqvarna fe350s that I could do the same thing but it’s really a street legal dirt bike that I can ride on the street to hit connecting trails but mostly live off road and it’s only like 236lbs dry so around 240lbs wet.

Great vid! As an owner of several Yamaha dual sport (DT125/250/XT350/600) over the years, I wondered about one of those YZ450 bikes and how well they would do converted to dual sport. I don't know much about them but I figured there's more engine wear with performance. But, constant oil changes might help mitigate that problem. Good info!

Your super moto is NOT the best of both worlds

You gotta accept a dual sport for what it is. It’s a half ass kinda shitty dirty bike. It’s a half ass kinda shitty street bike.

But it does both well enough to have plenty fun. Love my WR250R. I wheelie and have fun on my sumos. And I take it off road on the dirts.

Obviously I’d prefer to commute a MT-07. And obviously I’d prefer to rip off road on a YZ250. But my WR250 does both well enough that I’m keeping it as long as possible.

I respectfully disagree with not taking an adventure bike off road. I’ve used my Africa Twin as a dual sport since the day I bought it. Yep. It’s heavy and not real fun to pick up. But the way I’ve got mine set up, it RIPS off the pavement. For the general population I’d say yes, don’t take one off the pavement in the middle of nowhere such as I do. But if you have experience, balls, and low intelligence such as myself an adventure bike is the way to go 🤘Great explanation of the downside of dualsport though. Thanks for the video. Subbed.

Are you kidding me? Most of us got an indoor sports because of the high number of videos that you have promoting a dual sport now you’re pulling the rug out from under our feet? WTF?

I wanted to do de 450 modifications but you cant here in FL, so I got the Husky 701, no regrets. Still light for her power, its a beast!😀

I just recently put the Shinko 705s on my 2022 DRZ400SM... such a good move I love it! Best of both worlds. I went with the SM over the S for a few reasons IMO it looks a lot better, I got the inverted forks (the gold forks look sick), and bigger brakes. Plus those 17" wheels look great too.

U cant take it anywhere u couldnt ride it across the country but u could ride a duelsport across the country

If you want reliability, low maintenance, offroad capability, travel long distances and touring then you can't beat the Yamaha Tenere 700. I converted mine to tubeless (rear only) so it got the best of both worlds

Those tires are like 80/20 street/offroad at best, there's no chance youre going off with those into anything more difficult than easy, compact dirt trails etc or youre crazy. So dont be saying like you can "go anywhere" with those, you really cant. And if you do you will find out their limits real fast.

I recently purchased an adventure bike, came from a naked sport bike…off pavement is a more accurate statement for me and my expectations of the bike. We have a large trail system that I can access after an hour or two of road riding…I’m not planning on taking random turns through the woods so the mid sized adventure bike seems like the best of both worlds (for me).
